I didn't see Walter's avatar today ... but that's because he hasn't posted since 7:30 am! Almost unheard of. Presumably he's underwater. But I went digging and I still see him.
Weird trouble you're seeing. If you haven't already, try choosing "Empty Cache..." in the "Safari" menu and then quitting and restarting Safari.
