Twinklez - I just finished reading 'Chicken Soup for the Ocean Lover's Soul'...you should submit your writing to them - great trip reports - I felt like I was there with you. I even started looking around for the black sea bass!!!

Tina-

Just got a chance to read this. Great job! I almost felt like I was there... oh, that's right... I was!

So glad you enjoyed your first open water and kelp forest dives. Just wish we could have had the 85' vis that Walter, Sapphire and I had nearly two years ago.

The orange fish was our state salt water fish, the garibaldi. It was defending a nest full of ~2 week old eggs that was on the vertical rock face I pointed to. The small yellow and black striped fish was a juvenile treefish. The red and blue fish were Catalina or blue-banded gobies.

You did forget that Simin mentioned we swam right past a large black sea bass (probably the 350# given the location). Not only did I not see it, I did not even see Simin and her student!!

So now we need a SD trip to Catalina... right?

Bill

Thanks Bill, I knew you would fill in the blanks for me. You're right, I did forget that Simin said she saw us swim right past a large Black Sea Bass. I did see other divers in the water at various times but I didn't want to interfere with what they were doing, and we were on our own mission.

I think a SD trip to Catalina would be wonderful! It would be great to do as the two women I talked to while waiting for my boat who rented a house (or two) for the week. We could explore the diving off of Avalon and Two Harbors! I remember reading the signs in the dive shop and also noticed that boat diving is available as well. Even more I think hanging out for some local entertainment after diving would be great! Good company, great diving, food, spirits, and entertainment...all available in our own backyard.

I'm definately going back for more - it's just a matter of when.

I know it's been way too long since I dived Casino Point with Bill. It would be great to go back with a fun group.

If Walter comes, maybe we'll get the same kind of outstanding visibility we did last time! That would be awesome!

Do I hear "party, party, party" (well AFTER the diving that is). High and dry today (taking a former GF from 30 years ago around the island with her two girls). Hope to check the vis tomorrow.

So doc,

Why haven't you suggested an SD event in your backyard?? Since I travel that way, I am certain I could work a formal SD event into my work related travel schedule!!

DBD from what I saw there is lots of fun to be had whether a formal SD event, or an informal get-togeter of SD friends. Share your travel schedule when you are heading out that way with Bill and others in that area. You won't regret it. :-)

I seriously plan on going back soon to see more of the island and do a lot more diving.
