Hey gang...still working on the trips for 2005 as well as the balance of 2004. Question for you...do you plan dive trips over the holidays and if so...which ones?

If you don't plan dive trips over the holidays...why not???

Short list of holidays: Valentines Day, Spring Break (ok so not officially a holiday but close!) Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, week after Christmas and before New Years, and New Year's weekend.

Any time other than Christmas. Gotta' be home with family for that one.

Otherwise, that's my best time to be away from business - immediately before and during a holiday, especially a weekend holiday lik Mem Day WE, Labor DFay WE, and really so for the week following Christmas.

This year, I'm leaving Dec 26 - Jan 2. Would love to go with a SD.com trip, but either way - it's boring and unrewarding for me to be here that week.

But - Halloween is not a serious holiday for business, is it?

Thanks for asking, don

Christmas is for family... and as for March break I stay away from anywhere where I know munchins are going to be.

Too many parents don't watch their precious little ones... either depending on the good nature of folks to to watch them for the parents... I am not a babysitter! (a pet peeve I will admit it)

Christmas is out for me too, but I usually do a trip over Thanksgiving. As long as weeklong or longer trips are planned several months in advance I can schedule them anytime. Already got a boat booked for Truk in October 2005! Dive on!

Well holidays here are a bit different from U.S. holidays. We don't do Memorial Day but have Victoria Day in May. 4th of July- not here but Canada Day (July 1st) and Thanksgiving is in October not November.

I can pretty much do a trip any time my bank account allows except for Christmas. I think my folks would kill me!

So do you define xmas as the week after or just the day????

Christmas and Boxing Day (Dec 26th) are the holidays here. After that I usually have to go back to work so either before or after the 24th/25th/26th would probably be fine. I don't usually do anything for NewYear's with my family so that's definitely open.

Name the holiday and I'll do a trip on it! My family is out of state (what little is left) and my brother doesn't much care.

I love trips over Turkey Day week. I can be gone for eight days and only burn three days vacation for the whole deal as my company gives me Thanksgiving and the Friday after as paid holidays.

I'm off the board from Christmas Eve Eve (my bday) through Jan 2nd/3rd or whenever the college national championship game is (FIGHT ON, TROJANS!). If I missed Christmas with my family in Colorado I'd be hung from the rafters.

jextract...you can borrow my wings if they do that to you. <said extremely sweetly...>

i'm open for anything, my parents don't care as long as i call them and massively visit them the week before i get back and the week after. my sister's used christmas vacation to go to vegas for the last few years, so it's pretty standard that we only have to make it to thanksgiving...which we celebrate the week before 'cause my older 'sis is always on call that holiday. yea...i'm open to anything. (boyz...don't take that the wrong way. i'm still seething over the barrel incident! :teeth: can't believe i got burned...<stomping away to another thread!>)

Pretty much contolled by the bank account...
:teeth:

Typically Thanksgiving in Canada - Sunshine Coast (just got back today too)
Summer - have Dive Campouts - but not on holidays as too crowded
Labor Day - Campbell River, Dive Campout, diving and swimming with the salmon
April/May - dive campout to the San Juans - Lopez Island

November - try to go somewhere

Christmas day 25th (our Xmas DL.. heheh and yours if I can ) local dive.

Memorial Day - 1 week trip or 3 day to Canada..

Bottom line, whatever I can get away with... next main one is to Roatan, Aug and then to Sulawesi and ??

I have a long standing tradition of diving with friends on Thanksgiving and bringing in the New Year with them underwater (weather permitting). If married folks were allowed, and we could invited them, I'd be willing to go someplace on those dates. I can't take any time off in December at all. Other than that, I'm open.

I think those married folks you are referring to would be a blast to have along!
