Kelp diving is different in that you are literally immersed in your environment - it envelops you.  Everywhere you look, there is life.

Very cool. So is Monterey much like this as well?

Yes yes yes!!! The kelp beds in Monterey are very much like this, though some of the fish you'll see are a little different ( No garibaldis, giant sea bass, or Lobsters. But plenty of gorgeous schools of rockfish, crabs, sea lions, sheepsheads, seals, and nudis galore ). Diving in the kelp beds of Monterey is something I do really miss now that I'm back in the PNW. You will love the diving in Monterey!
