Just wanted to report on my trip to Dutch Springs for DUI Dog Days. I got to try out DUI suits all weekend and dive with a great buddy (who may or may not reveal himself!) I got in 3 dives with 2 different suits. My left sleeve flooded all three times (something about my wrist has a tunnel) and I had a little weight issue on the third dive as they added a vest to keep me warmer. But I got my bouyency down in 15 mintues on the first dive and we had a blast!! Good food (pig roast sat night) great weather (80's all weekend) and great people!! I think when I can afford a dry suit, I'll know which one I want and who to buy it from!! As for what to see at Dutch. There are a lots of things to do in the water. We say a metal boat, then a wooden boat and an airplane all in one dive!! Water was 54 at 59 ft and 69 at the surface. For all the people who were there saturday, it didn't seem crowded in the water at all! As for me I'm sore, tired and just so excited that I got to dive and found a great buddy to dive with!!! No off to rob a bank cause now I want a dry suit!!

Oh... I know who.....

Glad you had a grand time girl! What can I say... dry suits are ideal for our kind of water.

My dive buddy did a great job of getting her buoyancy down and dove the suits well. Once Sunday hit, we actually had the time to get into some of the better suits and they found one to fit my divebuddy from Rochester well. We took them out by a couple of boats and the plane (Piper Cub?) in the center of the quarry. It was a lovely dive in spite of the normal warnings (read: equipment issues) that we had just prior to that dive. I wasn't impressed with the suits that I was diving Saturday over my current one, but I loved the CF200 that I used most of the day on Sunday (like until close of the event, LOL). That crushed neoprene is great!

I will second the opinion on Discover Diving who took care of the hotel and tickets for the event. They did an excellent job.

Hey, Max, I wish that I could join you down there but I will be diving the Straits that weekend. Make sure that they get you into the Crushed Neoprene instead of the Standard. You will either curse me for saying that or thank me depending on your available funds, LOL. Remember to save some of that for our Northern get-together. :teeth:

Heather... I look forward to diving with you again.

Brian, the plane does look like a cub, but according to the web site it's a cessena. Must be a really old one as they don't make the square wings like that anymore and I think the wooden one is a chris craft (there are 4 wooden boats there somewhere!). Still baffled by the metal boat. No cleats??? It's called the Silver Comet. Hope the driving-lag has worn off!!

Working on it! You don't want to know the "extra mileage" charge on the loaner that I had over the weekend, LOL.

I'll be alright tomorrow morning. I was really dragging at work today, LOL.

Heather, I have the same problem. I highly recommend smurf blue dry gloves. Can't flood your sleeve if you're not relying on a wrist seal. The extra money for drygloves is money well spent when you come back from every dive dry.

Sounds like you guys had a great time. I'll have to hit the DOG days when DUI comes around here.

I would recommend that as well. But she gave me an idea that may work. In order to find out, the drysuit would have to happen first. And seeing as how I would like to dive with her again, I am hoping that the trip fund isn't spent yet!

Thanks for the information, Heather. I hadn't gone through the website to that extent. I got some good photos of the plane as well.

Brian,

Send them there photos!! Or at least post some of them up here so everyone can see!!

As for a dry suit, I just found out the the USCG Aux may issue me a dry suit of my own!! I have to get the details as we already know I would need a custom suit. And DUI makes their suits too!! Also don't know if I would be able to use it for pleasure diving. Even if it's orange and blue, if it's free them I'll go for it!! At least you'd be able to see me!

So when's the next trip???? Can I leave now?
