Thank you Twinklez for the reminder!

Joshua made it thru surgery on wednesday. They have not closed his chest in case they have to go back in , Maybe monday they will. He is awake at times and opens his eyes. Only mom and dad can go in to see him right now, he's in isolation. The Dr's are amazed at how stong he is! I think Joshua was the right name for this little warrior!

Here's a good website with info about the condition and the operations he'll have.

Heather, is Joshua, or will he be on a donar list for a heart should one come available, or the 3-stage process not work? With the 3-stage process will there be subsequent surgeries requiried as he grows or to maintain the shunt?

My nephew, the first grandchild born to my parents, was delivered several months premature and his stomach ruptured. He was airlifted to the neonatal intensive care unit at Loma Linda University in CA, and spent the first three months of his life there. I remember how hard it was for my brother and his wife to get back and forth to the hospital and still carry on with work and the daily requirements of life. My thoughts are with you and your family, and most of all little Joshua, the warrior.

Josh is not on a donar list. The first surgery has worked so far. He will have the second in 4 months. They will be closing his chest today(last I heard anyhow). Once he goes home, he will basically be a boy in a bubble. No visitors. He can't leave the house. His older brother will have to take off his clothes and shower before he can come into the house. This will be the norm for at least 4 months, until he gets the second surgery. It mostly depends on how fast he grows. They don't want him to outgrow the shunt.

Thanks so much for all the prayers. They are working!

BTW-he was farting saturday!

So good to hear about Joshua's immediate progress.

I can't imagine the risks involved when you consider that any contact with the outside world can introduce contaminants. How in the world do you even offer help? Maybe to take big brother out for the weekend, or get groceries or something. Even then the groceries get dropped at the door and you still risk bringing contaminants in not knowing who has handled the groceries in the store prior to purchase or during stocking and checkout.

Though the stars are covered by clouds in my neck of the woods, they are still there and shine brightly even if behind a mask. I'll continue to ask for strength for this little boy from the sun and the moon and the stars. I hope that you'll keep us posted on his status.
