Spaces are still available for the March 10-11, 2006 study. If you haven't done the profile yet, we invite you to sign up.

The next studies for USNFAD is tentatively scheduled for:

March: 10-11, 24-25
April: 7-8, 21-22
May: 5-6, 19-20
The profile to be tested and scheduled is as follows:

Dive: 120 min @ 60 fsw plus 26 min @ 10 fsw
Surface Interval: 5 hrs
Flight: 4 hrs @ 8000 feet
Trial Schedule:

Friday

1500: Meet at Duke Hyperbaric Center, Paperwork, Blood draw for pregnancy test (if necessary)
1515: Study briefing, Sign consent forms
1600: Pre-dive assessment, Physical exam, Body composition, Baseline ultrasound (Doppler and TTE)
1700: Dinner
Saturday

0630: Restricted activity begins
0700: Meet at chamber, breakfast, prepare for dive
0730: Commence dive
1000: End dive
1030: Doppler examinations at 30 and 60 minutes post-dive
1100: Medical check, release, and end of restricted activity
1430: Return to chamber and prepare for flight, Restricted activity begins
1500: Begin flight
1900: End flight
1930: Dinner
2100: End of restricted activity
2200: Medical check and release
Sunday

0900: Medical check at Hyperbaric Center
Monday

0900: Final medical check phone call
Study Guidelines:

The Flying After Diving Study is to determine safe limits for Flying After Diving on profiles of interest to the US Navy.
Participants must be certified divers or have experience with hyperbaric exposure,
Between the ages of 18-60 years old, and must meet certain physical criteria. You must be relatively fit, and have no medical conditions.
Absolute exclusions to the study are: pregnancy, chest surgery, Pneumothorax, Asthma that is active and requires medication, chronic seizure disorder, chronic diseases (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, heart condition), and recent joint surgery.
Restrictions are as follows: No diving 48-hour prior to and after tests; No flying 24-hours prior to study dive and 48-hours after study flight; No organized sports or other exercise program for at least 72 hours prior to the test; and No prescription or over the counter medication including aspirin other than those identified to Study Physician for week prior to the test.
You will be compensated $120 dollars for completion of the study, and DAN membership and insurance at the preferred level will also be provided if you do not currently have one or if your membership expires within 30 days of the study.

Too bad they're so far away. I'd have to fly two days before and three days after to be able to meet their no fly restrictions.
