Hi Everyone,
April should be Ocean Fest, I believe it's the weekend of the 21st in Ft. Lauderdale. There is a live-a-board out of Ft. Myers to the Dry Tortugas that I've been wanting to do since I moved here. The website is ultimategetaway.com. I think it is for 4 days which isn't too bad for around $600. It includes everything. Another good place is Looe Key, it's just before you get to Key West and the reef there is great. It's close enough to downtown Key West to party there at night and dive the next day. Just a few ideas. Let me know if you need more. I know quite a few dive operators on the east coast of FL too if you need help finding one. I really don't recommend Key Largo. The reef there is dying and it's not so great anymore. Hope this helps.

Hi Patty, fdnyjery here ,I have lived in florida since 1990 and have been on the "ULtimate Getaway" unless you are an experienced diver in live aboards I would not recommend this boat why??? living and especially sleeping quaters are real tight ..bunk beds, unless you want to sleep up in the bow and then you will be rocking and rolling all night ;) Very little privacy for the gals and only one bathroom below decks: dont be so quick to write off the reefs of Key largo some of the best shallow reefs in the entire world are located here.Try Capt. Slates dive operation out of key largo..I am sure you will love it. Also you will love oceanfest... this will be my 3rd year and if you want any dive info this is the spot .I am sure you will go home with more than 1 shoping bag full of information. :) Also if you want to dive that weekend make your res. now as the spots on the boats are almost gone. Consider some great shore diving right off the back of oceanfest in lauderdale. hope to see you there warm regards Jerry aka fdnyjery :diver:

I'm pretty sure I will be heading south for the weekend. I haven't missed the show in the last 5 years I think. I won't be diving, I'll need to be packed for T&C :diver: the following weekend.

Maybe we can pick a place and meet for drinks and dinner. Max's Grill - 3 for 1 all the time is coming to mind. and the food is great also.

I'll be visiting the show for sure. If everyone wants to put something together for a local dive, that would sound good.

Ocean Fest (AIA south of Los Olas Blvd) near the Yankee Clipper Hotel

1140 Seabreeze Blvd
Ft Lauderdale, FL
33316-2426, US

Check out Ocean Fest

A number of us will be attending Ocean Fest and since we don't know each other lets meet up as a group. I am suggesting we all meet Saturday April 22 at 2:30 by the pool. Scuba Radio will be broadcasting the World of Boating show and at 3:00 Scuba Radio will be broadcasting.

Also like to invite everyone to meet for dinner and drinks Saturday night.
I'm suggesting Max's Beach Place about 2 miles north of the show.

I should be there, and I should be able to meet at 2:30 (just will have to check to see if any seminars are going on then that I will be attending).

Might I suggest meeting somewhere after that will not be a hassle for parking (or better if within walking distance), and that would have something to eat (will likely be starving by then) for vegetarians like . . . me? :bye: Not that I know anyplace in particular. That was just my thought.

Beach Place ( where Max's is located) is one of the recommended parking garages, and according to Yahoo maps is exactly one mile. It is a beautiful beach front walk. The Oasis, if that was what you were suggesting, was closed due to Wilma and the food is bad in my opinion. Pusser's has great food, but the drinks are expensive. It is about 1/2 mile north of the show.

Max's will be fine for dinner. They have salads right? :birthday:
I'll make sure to stop somewhere for lunch before meeting up with you.

I intend to drive down for Saturday the 22nd from Sebastian. It will be nice to meet some additional SD folks. Dinner may be an option we'll have to see how the schedule works out.
