I decide to sign up for this after reading the post. Filled out all the online information, got the approval and now find out there is no place even close to Colorado where I can go for the interview......Not sure what I will do now, nothing even close enough to drive to. Bummer.......

Yeah, I ran into the same problem. Maybe at some point it will expand to Denver.

Sorry Guys - you just need to plan a quick trip to DFW!
I went online Thursday PM to fill out application, got approval Friday PM and will have interview at DFW early Monday AM. Pretty fast for the government!
Don't you have any international flights at Denver, or is that new airport just a mid-continent refueling and icy runway stop? :angel2:
Seriously, if you get the paperwork in order I seem recall in my paperwork that you have 180 days to complete interview (of course it might have been the Mad Cow clouding my memory, too!). Just make DFW or another outbound city a leg of your trip and you are home free. If you are doing the SD COZ trip, you can get the interview done at DFW scheduling the interview far enough ahead of time to guarantee the time slot you need between flights from DEN and COZ.
Just a thought, my Rocky Mountain friends...

Well, that's the problem. DFW nor IAH worked for the Cozy trip. I am doing a direct flight to Cancun on Frontier.

The idea of trying to do it during a layover seems like a challenge. The airlines are just too fluid on their schedules to try and pull that off. If they did weekend appts, it might be possible, but for now it may have to wait until a holiday. Maybe for me I'll have to make the drive over to Miami during either Xmas or Thanksgiving. Is Vegas a city in the program yet?

So no weekend appts. Too bad I was going to try to do this during my 5 hour layover in Atlanta on the way back from Roatan.....frequent flyer miles, you have to take what you can get :angel2:

I was looking at the list this morning. Las Vegas is on the list. I'm thinking about doing a quick trip there, maybe for the U2 show, if I can find a ticket I can afford.....

If there's no place local to do the interview, that means there's no kiosks at your nearby airport, which means that unless you clear customs at a different airport and connect, it's not going to help you much...

I waited until they expanded to include Philly before doing it, even though I often clear in other airports.

Carla, if you can do it in Las Vegas, that would be great. If not, check around a few airports. Some do have evening hours and weekend hours.. I believe Honolulu did have Sat hours. If you are flying through any of them, it might be worth it. The interview and practice session only took about 20 minutes, of course I had to wait about 10 minutes before being seen, but that is still amazingly quick. I drove up to LA for an 840pm appointment, since San Diego is not in the program. Apart from the speeding ticket I got on the way there (who... me... speed????), I think it will be well worth it. I never clear customs in San Diego these days, with all the flight connections. It is always in Houston, Dallas, Miami, JFK or LAX. So this will work fine. BTW, it helps you skip the customs lines too, not just immigration. Hope I don't get beaten up by irate/ jealous passengers when I use it :-)

Carla (and your fellow Colorado Geologist SD) -

Sorry that Denver is not in the program yet. As I posted before, it is painless. Thursday PM I applied. Friday PM I got my approval. I was at DFW at 8AM for my onsite interview, photo and a study in black and white of my fingers and thumbs. I was out the door and on my way to my office in Dallas before 8:20 AM.

As Fordan posted, I noticed lots of "training" activites for CBP staff. In time they will have things smoothed out and (hopefully) expanded. Like every new pilot, it just will take some time to get rollling. I just view the ability to expedite customs as a real asset to divers - how many others show up at entry ports exhausted, hauling a 49.5-lb bag of dive equipment and a second bag of wet clothing behind them!

When you finish your application and pay the non-refundable fee you can schedule the interview. You can set the interview for ATL during your layover - just get it scheduled ASAP to fit your flights :cool1:!

It was easy up to finding out about the interview. I filled out the paperwork, got approval in no time, then the roadblock....

Called Atlanta office today, only open M-F, 8 to 4. No luck. So I guess this is going to require a road trip!

A few post have mentioned "FOOD". What's your understanding in regard to bringing Processed US purchased supermarket foods back into the USA. Any restrictions with carrying these foods using the Global Entry program. After a lenght conversation with a US Argiriculate Agent at a on island US Immigation and Customes Entry point. These types of food are perfectly legal for reentry. I mark the Blue form as no foods and if the Immigation officer asks about cigars, liquer or food I mention I have US purchased comfort foods and get waved thur no problem. Customs is interested in raw meats-foods, and live plants-insects infestation problems. I wonder how Global Entry comments about this. Thanks, Ss

If you decide Las Vegas is your destination, and the U2 thing doesn't work out, Margaritaville :cool1: is only three miles from the airport.

As far as I am aware, Global Entry has the same limitations as the regular customs process (ie the items you and I mentioned above). You actually do fill out a customs form using the touchscreen at the kiosk. Answering the same questions re food, exemptions etc. The only difference is that it is electronic and very quick, since your flight and personal info is already on the onscreen form (already been submitted by your arrival airline). My interviewer actually suggested that I always travel with a partially filled out customs form (name, address etc.. leaving airline etc blank) in case the kiosks at the entry airport are not working, so you would be able to complete the form and join the regular lines.
