Need recommendations for Houston area dive shops for open water training. PADI would be preferred but looking more for a shop with good instructors that teach not just go through the motions. This is not for me its for someone close to me that wants to get certified. Also a shop that doesn't mind me shadowing the classroom and confined and open water portions as well... yes I am just a little protective.

Don't have any experience Maximum Scuba or Oceanic Ventures.
Depending what part of town you are in. I know that Sea Sports Scuba has locations all over, and I have generally had good experience with them. DiveTech Scuba has a new building hear I-10 and T.C Jester but I havent been to their new place. My experience with them was they are good, but a bit pricey.
Diver's Paradise down in Seabrook is a great place to take tanks. I got three hydro'd and vis'd for less than $100./>
Mammoth Lake Scuba in Lake Jackson is a good place to take vintage ScubaPro regs like mine, although I am looking for a good ScubaPro tech closer to home in the Inner Loop. Anyone know anybody?

As for reg techs I'm not going to be a help as my reg tech is here in Dallas who mainly works on Apeks, Edge/HOG and Poseidon and I mainly use Poseidon regs. Only scubapro techs around Dallas would be Sr Tech(here) or scubatoys.

Plenty of places on the west side of town. Not sure about the east side.
I have had Nitrox and Rescue cert via Gigglin' Marlin and they are first rate, as well as competitively priced

If you can't eat it or play with it,
Just pee on it and walk away.
