I was thinking about what I could bring to donate to the orphanage at Roatan on this trip and came across a post on another forum that I thought I would share. Even though the post is from 2011 I thought it was worth sharing in case anyone else is wondering what to bring:
Below is the response I received from LYNN From Roatan Childrens Fund. It appears they are in desperate need of FOOD! I will be sending some money via PAYPAL to help with this.
We are the Roatan Children’s Fund and we help support the children at the Majken Broby Children’s Home as well as many other projects in Roatan.
We are a 501 © (3) and we are all volunteers.
The kids at the Majken Broby Children’s Home get some food delivered by Henry Morgan’s Resort however it is really not enough to meet their needs.
The kids do not need toys or gifts, they get lots of gifts and when that happens they do not appreciate them as they should. What they need is food for school lunches. That is the greatest gift you can give them. The kids are in school now but if you would like to visit the Home you could stop for groceries on the way. It would give you a chance to see the Home. If you would like to help the kids in this way I could send you a list of food items needed or we could do the shopping for you. Please do not give anyone at the Home cash as they have no way to keep it safe.
There are no young children at the Home at the current time however there in children in the Morgan Jane project that cares for babies. They would love the clothes. They are in Sandy Bay not that far from Henry Morgan’s. www.themorganjayneproject.com/about.html Henry’s Morgan Resort does a lot to help the community and I’m sure someone from Henry Morgan’s may be able to deliver them for you.
Again I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you and let me know if you would like a grocery list.
Thanks,
Lynn lynn@roatanchildrenshome.com
