If a new forum is ever added you should consider something along the lines of "What I learned about diving from that mistake" or something similar.

I have moved a number of threads that seemed appropriate in this new forum! Great new forum idea gcbryan! I'd suggest calling it "SCUBA Lessons Learned"

Another one modeled after a popular flying magazine would be ..."I Learned About Diving From That".

Keep in mind that all posts don't have to be about mistakes that were made. Sometimes you did the right thing in a tough situation but still learned something from the experience. Most posts will probably be about mistakes though.

I agree...sometimes we do the right things...or things work out right! I tried to include that in the description of the new forum.

The name doesn't matter to me one way or the other. People do know what Technical means (more or less) but I also agree that Advanced Diving is more descriptive of what we are talking about as it allows for more bluring of the lines. One can have an advanced dive at 100 fsw in cold water, current, at night with difficult navigational requirements. One can also have an advanced dive due to depth, gas, over head, etc.

I also agree about the name.

"Skin Diving" Magazine used to have a column on the last page called: "I Learned About Diving From That." I also like the idea of some kind of distinct name that specifies "life lessons" learned from mistakes, near misses and the like. How about something like: "My Bad: Learning From Mistakes and Near Misses?"

There is a GA magazine with a regular one page feature called "that worst day". A (near) disaster that was actually survived.

There's also a speciality sport magazine (can't remember what sport) with a similar feature "I learned about [diving] from that".

In Rodale's Scuba Diving, they have a section called "Lessons for Life". It breaks down a dive accident or incident and give pointers on what could have been done to have prevented it.

Isn't that always the case? I learned the most in my MBA program in what was by far the hardest class, International Finance (and the worst grade I got, too) ... and I had a degree in Economics with an emphasis in International Monetary Policy!
