Tanks, bottles, cylinders - in regards to SCUBA are they all synonomous - are they all accurate - is one better than the other?
Well I tend to call the ones on my back tanks but say stage bottle or deco bottle....

Bottles are small, and are slung or maybe strapped to your Tanks, which are bigger and are secured to your back harness thingy. Cylinders might be like tanks, or they might be thingys used for welding (the green ones are also a cheaper O2 source). Flasks are really big and are used to refill tanks/cylinders. Flasks are also found in submarines (aka boats) for blowing ballast....Tanks, bottles, cylinders - in regards to SCUBA are they all synonomous - are they all accurate - is one better than the other?

Or the kind of glass ones on the mantle with a ship (or boat) model inside of it?What about submarine bottles?
I confess, I can't tell the difference between any of the metallic thingys with lots of non-solid, non-liquid, breathable stuff inside under pressure, regardless of what we call them. (Or is that irregardless* of what we call them?)
Somehow though, saying "pony bottle" sounds ok, but saying "oxygen bottle" when referring to the big thingy filled with common atmospheric stuff strapped on your back on some kind of helpful floaty thingy just grates on my ears -

Well sometimes the same bottle(when a stage or deco) will see application as a tank(back gas) so it's kinda the whole when is it a ship and when is it a boat(except subs which are always boats)
