I heard a report this morning, starting tomorrow there is a change to this policy as follows:

Effective Tuesday, September 26, TSA Is Adjusting The Ban On Liquids, Aerosols And Gels

There are two major changes:

Travelers may now carry through security checkpoints travel-size toiletries (3 ounces or less) that fit comfortably in ONE, QUART-SIZE, clear plastic, zip-top bag. (click here for an example image)

After clearing security, travelers can now bring beverages and other items purchased in the secure boarding area on-board aircraft. At the checkpoint travelers will be asked to remove the zip-top bag of liquids and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.

In addition, larger amounts of prescription liquid medications, baby formula and diabetic glucose treatments must be declared at the checkpoint for additional screening.

It is unlikely that additional changes in the liquid, aerosol and gel policy will be made in the near future.

The surprize to me was Roatan removing all bug sprays from checked baggage, I hope the stuff is at least given out to the locals.

One amusing thing to know:

Now that the TSA idiots have their shorts in a knot over liquids, they've forgotten to check for cigarette lighters! :)

I'd left one in my carry-on bag accidentally, and it slipped through ALL of the checks at every airport around the Caribbean, including Miami a few times. I didn't see it 'till I got home yesterday. :D

Slightly OT: the liquids the TSA are searching for are ammonia and xxxine. Those among you that played with 'alternative chemistry' in your younger days already know what the fool TSA hasn't figured out: the vibration in a plane would cause nitrigen tri-iodide to immediately decompose as soon as the crystals are individually formed, making it annoying but totally harmless. You'd have a filter paper of 'pop rocks', and that's just about all it'd do. Trust me, I've made it before. It's such an unstable primary explosive that it's functionally worthless. You have to make it where you need it, 'cos transporting it is flat impossible.
