My friends never try to set me up . . . I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Rule 1 don't date your Honey where you make your money. :welcome:

I will second that one, I havent been set up(yet) where i have worked, but i have seen what happens many a time where i have worked, with the resturaunt being the worst as in one case the boyfriend was a supervisor and the girlfriend was just another server ... needless to say when push came to shove it wasnt a pretty site.

interesting thread, as im watching and making mental notes, as right now the only dates i have are with a textbook to study while im still in school. once im done with this portion of my education i will start looking again.

Was Sparky trying to set you up?? I'm sure his little black book is loaded! I've had the same problem, not to often though. I just tell people that I don't date, period. That usually is followed up with a bunch of questions as to why. Then I ask, "Does this person dive?". Which is usually answered by "No". Enough said.

ScubaPunk.... I like the way you think! The "Does this person dive?" qulifier is definately in the top 3..right after non-smoker and the "Coke or Pepsi?" questions!

I met the guy I'm currently seeing at a dinner thrown by friends and family members (his brother and wife, my niece and her husband). We were the only single people there among 5 married couples. We were forewarned that another single person of the opposite sex was going to be at the dinner, but neither of us felt tons of pressure over it. We each chose to look at it as dinner with friends and family, and possibly making a new friend. In this case, I didn't mind being set up, but in general, like you, I tend to avoid the situation. This time, for some reason, I agreed to it. Much to my surprise, it did work, so maybe it is not such a great idea to be 100% adverse to being set up. No harm in just meeting someone to see if anything clicks!!!

You also raise a good point that even if they DO dive, that can create more problems than it fixes. I like photography, warm, reef and shallow wreck diving. Not crazy about spearfishing, but will chase lobsters. This would not be a great match for a hard-core, cave diving, wreck-penetrating, spearfishing underwater cowboy. He'd be better off diving with his like-minded buddies.

You are so smart!

Yo,

I guess I could be categorized as a spearfisherman, cave diver, wreck-penetrator and therefore would be considered by most as hard core (although I would NOT call myself a cowboy). Anyways, I also love photography, warm, reef and shallow wreck diving and am just as happy, if not happier doing that kind of diving as I am the aforementioned. I'm not trying to get into your wetsuit here -- I just wanted to make sure that you and everybody else out here in cyberspace know that every tech diver doesn't always tech dive and/or always want to tech dive. I for one am much happier and willing to enjoy margaritaville after a dive if my dive was a warm water 30 foot no decompression dive.

I concur with NCCaveDiver. The reason why I will do a lot of the deeper tech dives is because that can often be where I will find the good stuff like clear water. On the other hand, we had some great viz a couple of weeks ago, and we had a great shallow dive on a really nice reef. Just because we do one kind of dive, that doesn't mean we don't enjoy the other.

It's not like its 200+ or nothing for us. We just want to go to places where it is worth diving. So, if the choice is the mud puddle or a deep wreck in clear water, guess where I'll be heading? :wakawaka:
