Hi all,

Just wanted to post that I am happy to accompany anyone coming up to the south coast of New Brunswick for dives in the area. While we have few accessible dive locations, we do have quality diving here. With the 40 foot high tides a LOT of nutrients go through the water supporting a large amount of diverse sea life. Lobster, Wolf Eels, Shrimp, Scallops(...and I have a scallop fishing license!!!) and all sorts of nudibranch and anenome. Well worth the trip and great close up U/W photography opportunities.

The conditions are challenging and I recommend you have AOW level training at least. Water temp varies between 37 - 55F winter to summer and we have strong tidal currents. I have done it in a wet suit, but diving dry is recommended. Viz can be spotty at times, but there is lots to see. If you like to camp there is an excellent camp ground right where you dive. I know a few people who have boats for off-shore locations as well.

I work straight days, but I can take some vacation time to guide you through the local dive sites with suitable warning. Bangor, Maine is about two hours east of us.

Anyway, if interested feel free to drop me a line...

Safe Diving.

OK then. The first mug of hot chocolate is on me...

Here are some pictures taken by a local lady. They are all taken on the East coast of Canada and show what we have to see here. Deer Island and Beaver Harbour are shore dives. Casco Bay Island and Black Rock are boat dives. I have dove all those sites. The rest are either out of the area or I have not had direct experience.

That link you provided has some nice pics in there. I would be interested in knowing more about the dive sites, this sounds like something I would be interested in checking out. I wonder if this is something which can be done over a weekend if your driving from nyc or if more time would be needed...

Deer Island is the best place. You can only dive there on the low and high tides. If coming over the weekend you will find lots of locals diving "The Point" as it is called as well. It is the site of the Old Sow Whirlpool which is the biggest in the world. We dive right in that area. There is a campground on the Point or if you want to stay in a motel there are a couple of good cheap choices (Price, not quality). Not much to see on Deer so a weekend would be long enough. Divers from New England come up all the time just for the Point. Believe me it is worth it.

Beaver Harbour is a shore dive. It is on private property, but the owners are former divers and know we treat the land with respect so we are welcome.

Bangor, Maine is about two hours east of the sites. So just get on Expedia or MapQuest and figure out how long it takes to get there from where you are and add two hours.

I cannot stress enough that to dive in either site you need to have a local as a guide. The conditions are treacherous at times with 5-6 knots of current if you time it wrong. The tides there change 20+ feet in 6 or so hours. Also, as an American coming to Canada you will need proper ID like a passport (I don't think it is mandatory yet, but soon will be). Would recommend dive insurance too, just in case.
