Flying out of Fiji they will measure size and weight of your carry-on. If over 7 kilos, they will tell you to check it. Had a similar experience with Qantas employees in Sydney when traveling Air Pacific to Fiji but I have a way around it, but most prople don't.

Their excuse??? "You don't want 40lbs falling on your head do you?" My quiet response... "I'm not an idiot and I open the overheads carefully". This falls into what I call the "least common denominator". One person was stupid and got hurt so now they have to treat everyone like they are stupid.

Yeesh, thanks for the info! Perhaps they should just tell us that in case of a "water landing" your overweight carry on baggage could prove to be a hazard!

It seems that on most trips that I have gone on, even though I have come back with less stuff, the bags weigh more on the way home and I have to pay fines... I think some of these places have their thumb on the scales!

It could be water weight from not so dry gear and humidity in your clothes and bags. It does add up!

Yeah... you don't realize but water gets everywhere and takes days to dry out. In your wet suit, boots and gloves and in your BC if you don't take the time to dump it. And think of the humid climate... Once I do get home, everything gets hung up and a dehumidifier to help suck all the moisture out.
We all must believe in something... I believe I'll have another beer
