new dive computer

Granted I run a square profile, but the dive is designed around a specific goal which can be accomplished within the profile time limits. As for the guys who get out of the water quicker, I don't mind the 20' deco stop as I can relax and enjoy being in the water. Also, by running our tables my team is on the same page, will dive the agreed upon profile, begin our ascend and run deco together--all as a unified team.

I agree and dive tables when tech diving also. But I do have a computer (VR3) for backup in case the **** hits the fan and my contingency and bailout plans are blown - which has actually happened once. Then you do have a computer that knows exactly what you have done and it can give you stops you need to make AND you can tell it which gasses you are breathing. Some of the other computers mentioned can't do that, you program it before you dive and if you don't do that dive for some reason, then what do you do?But why spend the money on a computer when a BT/depth guage and some deco software will do the same thing? In a way I guess it takes the thinking out of dive planning, but is that what you really want someone to do while planning dives. IMO computers can lead to a CF, as each team member may have a different computer with a different algorythm--some will call for longer deeper stops which will lead to team seperation.

This has only happened once and probably never will again (at least I hope not), but I'm glad I have a computer that can get me out of the water if I need it.
But as for most diving, I agree with VADiver and plan my dives that way, as a team.
p.s. I'm sure VADiver didn't mean it the way it sounded, but I'm never trying to "impress" anyone with any of my dive equipment. I buy what I think I need and what I feel is the best equipment for the application for which I plan to use it. SOME people say certain divers try to impress others by how little equipment they use.
