Hi Everyone,
HOW TRAGIC! I read the article, and watched the police interview of the husband. He had been thru a rescue coarse, it seems like the only mistake this woman made was to have ever got in the water with this gu!. He didnt drop her wt. belt, inflate her BC, but instead left her to go the surface to get help (in a 100' of water) YIKES! Wondered others thoughts?
Sorry to you WW, if this is not the right catagory for this topic,,,, Terry

No worries...sometimes which category to put something into is pretty tough! :cool1:

However we do have a special category for diving related lessons so I've moved this to there. There is certainly a lot to be learned from this.

But at the end of the day...I can't see how it was anything other than murder. The diving parts just don't add up.

He failed as a rescue diver and he failed his wife but she must have had her suspicions about him because she lied to him about making him her beneficiary on her life insurance.

THANKS WW!
I wasnt sure, especially at 6 this morning. I did keep waiting for you to respond to my statement to Lynnlchan, that "no guys afraid of WW" after she said you might use my dancing all night, against me, in my "Riding out the rain in MN" blog. Sure hope I didnt offend you, it is tough to tease in type, warm hug to you!

Yes, during the police interview he sure didnt seem to chocked up about, for it being their honeymoon! The picture provided as someone swam towards her on the bottom, as particularily sad. He had more experience then her, and during the interview stated that she had her arms out towards him when he made the decision to "go get help". Thats pretty brutal,,,, sounds like murder to me too.

None of his story adds up. It's ridiculous. I can't believe that anyone that has taken a rescue course would make up a story with so many holes in it.
As for me, I'm feeling pretty scubalicious.

Hmm....I missed that...I'll have to go and investigate! :cool1:

And sadly the lack of emotion was a taletell sign in addition to more holes in his story than swiss cheese. I am 1000% confident that my new husband would have been DEVESTATED had it been me. And he would have done everything possible to save me if I were in trouble.

I hope the jury has DIVERS on it...if they are he will surely be convicted.

The whole story is bizarre and sick. And stupid if he really thought he was going to get away with it. I hope the jail up in Queensland has no air conditioning..

His story might have made sense if he were an inexperienced diver prone to panic.

But an experienced diver who had recently completed a rescue course? Don't think so....

The incident occurred in 2003.

Now, in 2008, an indictment has been handed down in Australia.

Extradition theater will now be convened in the US over this charge.

Anyone want to start a pool as to if or when this man EVER gets extradited to Oz to face the charge?

I hope the jury has DIVERS on it...if they are he will surely be convicted.

Divers will be eliminated from the jury pool by the defense lawyer just like they don't want you on the jury in a theft case if you've ever had anything stolen from you. I was eliminated from a jury when the theft involved a boat, they didn't want anyone on the jury with a boat or a friend with a boat.

The problem with that is he is NOT being judged by a jury of his peers....his peers in this case would be DIVERS!

... jury of his peers...

In the USA you will NEVER be judged by a jury of your peers.

  • Once I was called for jury duty and anyone that had ever ridden a bus even once in their entire life was excused because it was a case over a bus crash. Since I, like most people, had been on a school bus many times....
  • Another time I was excused because I had WALKED through a certain intersection ONCE.
  • Another time I was excused because I said "yes, I do believe sometimes people file lawsuits just to get rich".
  • Another time I was excused because I have a college education
  • Another time I was excused because I had a professional racing license
