You know, the ones that you still like years after they go off the charts (that is, if they make the charts at to begin with). Those all time faves that you never seem to tire of.

Here are a few of mine:

Crazy by Seal (In a world full of people, only some want to fly, isn't that crazy?)
You Get what you Give by New Radicals (the ultimate youth anthem)

and most of all:

Year of the Cat, by Al Stewart (simply beautiful in every way)

Hmmm.... no particular order

"Panama Hat" by Eric Bibb (The live version at the Basement Hotel is best - it's on Youtube)
"In The Valley" by Midnight Oil (The live version at MTV)
"Jailanguru Pakarnu" by the Warumpi Band
"Fire On High" by the Electric Light Orchestra
"Howling At The Moon" by the Bondi Cigars
"You're My Home" by Billy Joel
and lucky seventh...
"All Around My Hat" by Steeleye Span

Pretty eclectic list and some very obscure ones for those of you Stateside.
"Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love." Albert Einstein

SD's Aussie Connection.

"I'm Your Man," by Leonard Cohen

Ooh! almost forgot! Speaking of Cohen, how about:

"Take This Waltz"

Quite possible one of the most romantic songs ever made. :cheerleader:

I've got a bunch of Led Zeppelin songs stuck in my head, because my tape of their favorites has been stuck in my Jeep’s tape player for 2 years.

My favorite song about most of my favorite things:

King Crimson – Sex, Sleep, Eat, Drink, Dream.

If only they had included SCUBA.

Total Eclipse of the Heart in the original version

Who did that? I love Bonnie Tyler's version.

Other songs that come to mind, just a few that come to mind - Lay Lady Lay (Bob Dylan), Tammy (Debbie Reynolds), Moonlight Shadow (Mike Oldfield), Leaving on a jet plane (Peter, Paul & Mary), I'll never fall in love again (Bobby Gentry), Michael rowed the boat ashore (original Highwaymen), Freight train (Nancy Whiskey), Lost in France (Bonnie Tyler), Guitar man (Bread), Time after time (Cindi Lauper), Hotel California (Eagles), Soley Soley (Middle of the Road), Whiter shade of pale (Moody Blues), Time has told me (Nick Drake), Streets of London (Ralph McTell), Maggie May (Rod Stewart), Only living boy in New York (Simon & Garfunkel - plus some others by them), plus loads from Beatles & Rolling Stones & some others. I thought about including some Enya, but though I like them I'm not sure they meet the strict standard. There are lots of others I really like, but I'm not sure they pass the test of immortality. Anyway, that's all I can think of right now.

Although I have lots of Led Zeppelin I can honestly say that I don't rate them at all, and never did. They just make a loud noise, and there were others who did that better. IMHO of course!

Bonnie Tyler's version is what I refer to; Nikki French did a Disco-style version of it that makes the rounds of dance clubs from time to time.

My favorite song is Brown Eyed Girl. It doesn't matter if it is the Jimmy Buffett or Van Morrison version, because I like them both!!!

OK I have 2 that have made rounds i varing degrees of popularity.

Lee Greenwood "God Bless the USA"
and "the Ballad of the Green Berets" I like the Dolly Parton lyrics better then the original but if you know the true story behind that song and can listen to it with out a tear forming then you probably dive the arctic in a 3 mil shortie.

I have to go with anything from the fantastic 5-part harmony and dual lead guitars of BOSTON. Too bad their lead singer passed away last year - no other rocker has his pure vocals!

Hard choice, as my tastes in music have changed over the years and has become very eclectic and more sophisticated. A lot of what I thought was just the coolest when I was in my early teens (The Monkees) I would cringe or laugh at today. Music that I thought was boring and "square" when I was young(er) I love today. What I listen to today all depends on what type of mood I'm in at the moment, if I'm feeling energetic, and want to hear something upbeat, or tired and want something to relax by, etc, etc.

This is just a sample list, doesn't include everything.

What survived the years:

Vintage Rock:

Beatles - She Loves You, Hard Day's Night.
CCR - Bad Moon Rising, Green River.

What I grew into later:

Vintage Country:

Patsy Cline- I Fall to Pieces, Sweet Dreams.
Ray Price - San Antonio Rose, Heartaches By the Number.

Vintage Jazz and Big Band:

Artie Shaw - Sugar Foot Stomp, Copenhagen.
Duke Ellington - Rent Party Blues.
Albert Ammons - When You And I Were Young, Maggie.
Pete Brown's All Star Quintet - It's The Talk of the Town

What did NOT survive the years - Most of what is deemed "acid rock" or "heavy metal rock". A partial list of bands I used to like in my teens and 20s but wouldn't listen them now: (doesn't mean they weren't good, just that my tastes have changed).

I mentioned The Monkees, add to that Grand Funk Railroad, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, Savoy Brown, Iron Butterfly, The Mothers of Invention. (Not real sure what genre you would put that last one in, were talking Frank Zappa).
