Hard choice, as my tastes in music have changed over the years and has become very eclectic and more sophisticated. A lot of what I thought was just the coolest when I was in my early teens (The Monkees) I would cringe or laugh at today. Music that I thought was boring and "square" when I was young(er) I love today. What I listen to today all depends on what type of mood I'm in at the moment, if I'm feeling energetic, and want to hear something upbeat, or tired and want something to relax by, etc, etc.
This is just a sample list, doesn't include everything.
What survived the years:
Vintage Rock:
Beatles - She Loves You, Hard Day's Night.
CCR - Bad Moon Rising, Green River.
What I grew into later:
Vintage Country:
Patsy Cline- I Fall to Pieces, Sweet Dreams.
Ray Price - San Antonio Rose, Heartaches By the Number.
Vintage Jazz and Big Band:
Artie Shaw -
Sugar Foot Stomp,
Copenhagen.
Duke Ellington -
Rent Party Blues.
Albert Ammons -
When You And I Were Young, Maggie.
Pete Brown's All Star Quintet -
It's The Talk of the TownWhat did NOT survive the years - Most of what is deemed "acid rock" or "heavy metal rock". A partial list of bands I used to like in my teens and 20s but wouldn't listen them now: (doesn't mean they weren't good, just that my tastes have changed).
I mentioned The Monkees, add to that Grand Funk Railroad, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, Savoy Brown, Iron Butterfly, The Mothers of Invention. (Not real sure what genre you would put that last one in, were talking Frank Zappa).
