Oh, those pics are SO staged! Take a look at the first pic and the rope impressions in shark's tail. That fish was not killed by a freediver in the water. What a crock! They hooked that baby from the deck of the boat, I'm betting, hauled it aboard by the tail to take pics, then decided it'd be really bitchin' to take pics in the water. I'm certainly no expert on freediving, but I find it highly unlikely that the shark would cooperate by engaging in the struggle on the surface, so that the diver could get air when needed on that two-hour epic struggle....

If it was genuine I'm surprised not to have read about it in a US newspaper. The Daily Mail is not the most reputable or reliable of British papers.

Tiger shark versus freediver with one notched bolt in the spear gun. Shark comes out with seven spears in it and the diver comes out unhurt... Hmmmmm...

So let me get this straight..... The headline is "Shark attacks diver".....
And the quote from the text is...

'The shark made a roll and looked like it was going to charge us so I just went ahead and took the conservative route and put a shaft through its gills.

I really really dislike it when they try to make sharks seem like the bad guys..... GGGGGggggrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!

I too was very suspicious of this story when someone emailed it to me today at work. The same article showed up in several publications today. It happened back in June. Why are we just hearing about it now? I agree that the photos don't look right. 2 hours? How can we verify this?

Well, it seems that some freedivers are into diving with tiger sharks.

Group of freedivers being interviewed live on CBS AM Morning show. Central, Mountain and Pacific viewers can see whole story and video at 1/2 time slot.

They are also on NBC Today show right after CBS same 1/2 hour time slot.

Media never gets it right. This whole story is typical poor journalism making a sensational shark attacks people story out of a people kill a shark reality.

If I could change something in the shark / people world, it would be to NOT use the word ATTACK. For those of us who have seen these critters feeding - I would assert if they chose to "ATTACK" there would be no survivors, and very little evidence remaining. When people get bitten, it seems to be normal to be one bite - they're just not into us as food.

Having said that, if I knew there was a tiger around, I'd be heading for the boat dragging my wounded buddy with me.*

No aquarium, no tank in a marine land, however spacious it may be, can begin to duplicate the conditions of the sea. And no dolphin who inhabits one of those aquariums or one of those marine lands can be considered normal.

This morning our local morning show added the jaws theme to the video. Felt sorry for the poor shark..
