WW, I'm looking for opportunities to dive the Flower Gardens this spring and summer. Since the Spree has relocated to KW, what are the available options? I assume the Fling still operating out of Freeport? Does SD have a booking arrangement with them?

Hammerhead spawn is coming up shortly, and I'd love to get in on that!

Thanks!

Victoria

The Fling still goes to the Flower Gardens. WW has not made any booking arrangements with them. Maybe we can get a Dive-of-the-month together for TX and head out there, if anyone is interested.

Been in touch with Zach a bit on facebook. He just had a birthday recently.

I'm not sure SD has a booking arrangement with the MV Fling, typically you must book your spot thru one of the dive shops that has spots reserved for which ever weekend you plan to dive

Thanks for asking...and no we do not have a booking arrangement with the Fling however I may ask about doing so for the future.

The Spree will be back for part of August and September if you want to wait that long.

I'm hoping to make it out on the Fling this spring before my Hawaii trip, but it all depends on schedule and if I can get a 4 day off award that matches a time when they are going out. I'd be driving from Dallas and would have room to add a carpooler if needed.

Brad.

The Fling likes to book clubs or LDS's. Hard for a single person to get on a trip from what they have told me when I ask.
I do know of a local (Houston) group that is going out Sept. Contact me if you want more information.

And I figured I could call one of the LDS's that had the particular dive date and see if there was an opening.....I've noticed on several dates they have up to 3 different groups booking the trips. In worst times I have a 1 week heads up on time off and in best times I have an 8 week heads up. From Feb 14 - March 14 I have 1 week head up :canada:

Brad ~ Sounds like a great idea. Good luck. I hope you are able to make it out and do some FG diving.

Brad -

Let's talk at the TX Dive Show, or just PM me. I too am interested in a FG run and live near SMU.

Since the "Spring" and the "Flee" are similar size former crew boats, and having been on the Flee when full of crew and 24 divers and their gear/luggage/personalities, I could not IMAGINE what the Spring would be like with a full complement of 36 paying customers. The galley, the dive deck, the bunks, and (OH THE HUMANITY) the heads... :canada:

I've been on the Fling when there's been a full compliment of divers and personnel. A little crowded, but doable! I don't mind. I'm not lookin' for luxury, just good diving with a good crew!

Brad & Jim, let's see if we can coordinate a trip!
