Welcome to the "Alternative" birthday thread. Please feel free todaily post your random and quirky memorable facts and figures. to educate and entertain us. It can be dive related, historical or just personal stories that will make us smile.

To kick things off, did you know that today in 1790 the first US population census was conducted, and in 1950 the territory of Guam was formed and it is 5 years today since I got certified OW. Way hey!

You can tell it gets very boring here in the hot summer months....

Hey Wee Lass!

It's my "Antibirthday" today too! (What are the chances? Well....good actually!)

Also on this day:-.........
On this day in 1961, amusement park lovers "head for the thrills" as Six Flags Over Texas, the first park in the Six Flags chain, opens. Located on 212 acres in Arlington, Texas, the park was the first to feature log flume and mine train rides and later, the first 360-degree looping roller coaster, modern parachute drop and man-made river rapids ride. The park also pioneered the concept of all-inclusive admission price; until then, separate entrance fees and individual ride tickets were the standard. During its opening year, a day at Six Flags cost $2.75 for an adult and $2.25 for a child. A hamburger sold for 50 cents and a soda set the buyer back a dime

For me? today was the first time i used a DPV. What a waste of time. Use one if you have somewhere to go!! If you dive off a boat round here.........then you're alrady there!

Still....beats a day on the high stool down the pub.

You should come visit during the hot summer months! If we get bored, we simply have a hurricane to liven things!

Good thread by the way!

{sorry for spelling errors, browsers not functioning correctly, so no edits........oh! and the following mis quote.......Other than that? a GOOD day! :-)}

Ah yes - I remember it is hurricane season. A few years ago (BC - Before Certification) I was tying up a 42foot yacht at Laverick Bay BVI's for refueling. I was insistent on tying springs. The fuel attendant just looked at me and said in a dead pan voice "There ain't goin to be no hurraaacanes here naveee laydeee".

Today in history.... (just a factoid! No religious or political commentary intended)

Acting on tip from a Dutch informer, the Nazi Gestapo captures 15-year-old Jewish diarist Anne Frank and her family in a sealed-off area of an Amsterdam warehouse.
