There's still two spots on this trip, I hope there are a couple people who are planning to join us.

I'll be working on my license this week so I'll have it ready... Info for the website to get your license is in post number 10. Looking forward to searching for megladon teeth!

Thank you Clint! I told someone the spot was theirs as long as they posted and sent the money in. I think they have sent the money but they have not posted yet. I'll let him know he needs to move quickly! -ww

Hello Clint,

If you make it on this trip, you will have a great time. It is a pretty special feeling to find a fossil that is 20-50 million years old, and realize that you are the only person that has ever seen or touched it. I was on the trip last August, and absolutely loved it. I am hooked, and will go as often as I can now. It is very different than diving the Caribbean of course, but like I said, there is a special feeling you get when you find something. I got out with a few friends last week to dive the Cooper. I came home with whale bones, whale ear bones, pieces of pottery, turtle shell, teeth from about 8 different kinds of extinct sharks, pieces of megaladon shark teeth that were over 5 inches long. That was from one day of diving. I am ready for August. Hope to see you there.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TRIP DOCUMENT UPDATE:

Hey gang...with the dive industry facing the same challenges we all face daily of doing 'more with less' it becomes IMPERATIVE for us to provide rooming and flight details NO LATER THAN 30 DAYS PRIOR TO THE TRIP. In order for us to meet these new deadlines we need YOUR documentation well prior to 30 days before the trip so we have time to process your information. in fact we need your survey and docs with your final payment.

As you know your flight details are needed so we can set up transfers OR just know if you've made your flights or 'have missed the boat'. Your rooming details enable us to room you with a roomie that is as compatible on as many levels as possible. We are limited by gender and room category you signed up for but if you don't care who we room you with other than someone in the same class of room and the same gender...then take your time getting us your docs...or blow them off entirely SANS THE WAIVERS & MED INFO OF COURSE.

Care about who your roomie is? Want to be matched on more than gender or room category? Then please get us your rooming and diving survey NOW!!! And NO LATER THAN 60 days prior to the trip when your final payment is due. And absolutely no later than 30 days prior to the trip or we will room you based solely upon gender and class of room.

We need your help to help you have a better diving experience! :thankyou:

Forms faxed and emailed today. I got the two year license last year, so I am still set with that. I am ready for the river now.

I am working on forms. I have a question about the hobby license, do you need the number or anything else regarding this?

Also, what do we need in terms of gloves, collection bag, and something like a screwdriver? Any thoughts or prices?

Hello Heidi,

Unless something has changed, Kamala will not need the license number. You will need to keep it with you, on the chance that someone checks for licenses. As for the other questions, last year I wore thin gloves. You will like the protection, but not to the extent of losing the ability to pick things up. You will definitely want a goodie bag. The collections last year included teeth from 1/4 inch up to 5 1/2 inch teeth, pieces of pottery, a pipe or two, bottles, and bricks ( Kamala collects them ). Everyone started with a large screw driver last year. I ended up buying a pic from Kamala ( $20-$25 ) on the first day. It is like a heavy duty two pound ice pic. That is what I now use. The biggest thing is having a good light. Hope this helps.

Ed

What kind of gloves did you use?
What is the cost to rent or to buy a goodie bag that works in current?

Hello Heidi,

I looked at Leisure Pro, and found Deep Sea Waterfall glove SKU: DPSGWM They are similar to what I use. The main difference is that they have 2mm Neoprene backing, while mine have a thin material backing. You will find that you are putting your hand on the bottom, without looking where it is going. You will also drag your hand along the bottom. The glove offers protection, while still allowing you to pick things up easily. As for the catch bag, I dont know if Bill has them or not. Kamala will better answer that. Some people will use a regular mesh bag, with the clip holding the metal handles together. A bit awkward to deal with on the bottom of the river. I had a friend sew me a bag. It is made of the material that the soft weights are made of, and has velcro across the top. It clips to my BC, and I can open and close it one handed, without looking at it. Ed

Gloves: Just pick up a simple pair from Home Depot that is slightly ruberized. We sell new gloves for $3 a pair if you want a good and inexpensive pair.

Bags: You can use any type of bag but one made from cloth or canvas is best in my opinion. I will get a sales price and rental price.

Pick: I do not think that Bill has them to sell anymore as the price of brass exceeds the price he can sell them for. You can use a long handled screedriver with a hole on the end so you can add a landyard to it to hold around your wrist. I can also find out what Bill would rent one for as well.
