SD.com Disclaimer: diving to 191 feet is not recommended for recreational divers! You are certified to 130 feet; beyond that you are entering the technical realm of diving, and appropriate training is recommended.

Here is link to video I shot in Fiji comparing the Eye of Mine flat lens housing for the GoPro Hero HD camera to that offered by Mako Spearguns. EoM price is approx. $100 fully assembled and pressure tested to 200 feet. Mako price is approx. $25, requires self-assembly, and thus not pressure tested.

For a minimal price difference, the EOM has less of the 'fish-eye'. I didn't like the Mako shots because of that blur around the edges. Just my 2psi.

Yes, both options demonstrate vignetting in the corners. In my opinion, the effect is minimal in the case of Eye of Mine but very noticeable and annoying in the case of Mako. When cropping out the corners approximately 20+% of the image is lost in the Mako shots while less than 5% of the image is lost in the Eye of Mine shots.

Note: I used the Eye of Mine case for my 191 feet deep dive - no leaks. I did not test the Mako case below 85 feet.

191 feet is trimix diving by the rules of just about every tech diving organization around. That is not even entry level tech diving, its multiple levels beyond that. This is the depth that EAN21 becomes toxic.

I wouldn't do this dive as a recreational diver and not with one tank of air. This is way beyond any dive any recreational divers should consider - our maximum depth should not exceed 130 feet. As has been said, this is not a recreational divers dive and any diver considering this depth should have technical training that matches this depth.

Yet another short (2:55) video of a different Fiji dive not for the timid and that should not be attempted without adequate training and experience!

Not Fiji, but based on comments posted here, I think it may be appropriate to repost this video I shot of a dive gone wrong in Cozumel. Don't let this be you!

I was fortunate enough to visit Beqa Lagoon in March, and it was an amazing experience. Good to see someone else's shared experience!

If you are so inclined, I also tried my hand at some video work and movie making about my trip. There is a very tongue in cheek trailer on You Tube if you want a sneak peak:

http://youtu.be/KRDb7ACGht0?hd=1

And if you liked that, and have some time to spare, the full length 40 minute video is in my Mobile Me gallery. You can download it or stream it, also compatible with iPhone/iPod/iPad.

As one of your camera techs I should get a bit of credit for the Mako demonstation...
