Hey gang...in the last couple of days I've found out that several of our members have recently become unemployed or may soon be unemployed. I've also found out that several of our members have hired other members or are looking to hire other members.

Should we have a forum for people to post that they are looking for work or offering work?

We currently have a 'Swap and Shop' forum for premier members and above to offer dive gear for sale or trade so maybe we could do something similar for those needing or offering employment.

Your thoughts?

Well since I'll soon be in the unemployed category it sounds like a good idea to me.

Kamala,

A pretty good idea. Most jobs are found through networking, not from want ads, etc.

Work? Why in the world would any diver want to seek that four letter word? Oh, I guess most have to support their dive habit somehow... buy new equipment, travel to new exotic destinations, etc. As for me, I'll stick with the other four letter word... PLAY!

Seriously, it would be interesting to see how this would work. As SD continues to grow in membership, it might become a significant service.

I would love to quit my job and change careers, and have started thinking about doing so next year. What are the job prospects in the diving community? For example, working as a divemaster at a resort? Do most resorts like to hire instructors instead of divemasters? I know I could make a living as a divemaster locally, at least on a part-time basis, working on some of the dive boats. What about on a full-time basis? Perhaps at a resort somewhere in the Caribbean? I'm willing to travel, but am I being unrealistic? What about other careers in diving? I'm open to any and all comments, suggestions, criticisms, and other feedback from the peanut gallery.

I got the bug working at Sea World. How cool it was to put on a wetsuit instead of a dress shirt every morning....

Great feedback so far. When I get back from NC...leave o'dark early tomorrow and return late on the 4th...I'll work on getting it set up. We'll see what additional feedback we get. Be thinking of the type of overview you'll post about the job you are looking for or your skills. I'll ask ZD how to handle resumes...most likely they will be available upon request. Ideas for how to best make this work are also appreciated! -ww

Also a discussion on who can post in the forum would be good as well. We usually reserve these types of features for members who have supported SD via their membership dues. I'd like to see that continue especially since our dues are so low. Thanks gang...-ww

So being currently unemployed I was wondering what the status of this new forum was. Also was wondering about about an eating regime you had mentioned WW?

No problem guys...let me play with this and see what format to use to make it work! As for an 'eating regime'...oh my gosh but my blondeness :marvel: is going to be showing on this one...let me see...I talk about 'eating' when we do our infamous cookouts on dive trips...I talk about 'eating' when I help clients dramatically improve thier nutrition in 3 simple steps...and I talk about 'eating' when ....well...maybe only the first two are the ones I would have mentioned on the site! :wakawaka:

Since I know my firm is looking for people and it seems there are some available people....

....we work on a contract basis, the firm handles Accounting, HR and IT projects and we have offices throughout the US and Internationally. I'm starting my 8th year with the firm, the arrangement works well for me. :teeth:

If anyone wants more info, let me know. I'd be happy to recommend a fellow diver, we're a special group. :lmao:

I believe that this is a good idea.

After 23 years with the Coca-Cola Company .. my job as a mainframe programmer was sent overseas and I was given the 'thanks for a job well done' as they escorted me and other unfortuneate employees out the front door.

Having a forum such as this would have been nice during the weeks of searching for employment. It might have even helped finding a better job than the one I have now.

Hey, I had to eat.....

Hey gang...its definite from the response that we are going to do this. What format do you want to see? One category/forum for people looking for work and one for people offering work? Do you want to post a brief bio so people know what kind of work you're are looking for? Should we offer it to all members or only to premier members?

Thanks for the feedback! I'll get this set up once I get a feel for how you'd all like to see it organized! -ww
