So New Year's trips are fun but EXPENSIVE and air is even worse! Trips in Dec can usually be cheaper and avoid all the holiday rush. So which do you prefer AND should SD do a trip in December or just do New Year's?

My vote for future planning Early Decembem vs XMAS/NYE or last week November/1st week December, some members maybe able to travel out early on Thanksgiving Day. I always want to be out of town on T-Day. JMTCW

I may have already voiced this... but I'm not sure that I'd want a December trip at all. Although I enjoyed the NYE trip a couple years ago, traveling the weekend before I return from Christmas break makes the jump back into work really hard and I would prefer a trip the week before New Years... but that probably isn't helpful to most other people... and it also is difficult when dealing with Christmas if you are trying to do anything with family at that time - not an issue for me but would be for others.

My preference is the week between Christmas and NYE. I'm usually off that week, and want to get out of town. Would like to do an SD trip but didn't want to repeat Belize again this year. Vazz and I are going to go to Grand Cayman if anybody wants to join us!

Hey girl..wish you could join us in Oct but for sure let us book it for you to save you some $$$. Another option for this timeframe is Galapagos for Christmas week with resqdew! We booked her on that trip a few weeks ago!

One advantage for a liveabord for New Year's vs. land based is that the price is the same for New Year's and they do not increase pricing like they do for landbased. Air is higher but it always is.

One advantages for a landbased for NYE vs. liveaboard is that you can have more flexibility with dates and do not have to worry about 'missing the boat'.

FOr me, the beginning of the month is the issue. Doesn't matter if its December or January, although the beginning of January is worse with a quarter close.

The disadvantage of a liveaboard OTOH is fixed dates, you can't leave a day early if necessary for your job from a liveaboard.
