Do I recall hearing that a minimum number of dives are required to dive the Red Sea?

If so you remember incorrectly. That may be true for some of the more demanding locations, but it's not so for the Red Sea in general. Many people learn to dive there... I've dived all over the Red Sea and I've never been asked for any details of my diving experience.

Proving 50 logged dives OR DM certification or above was required to dive in the Marine Park areas that we dived on the last Red Sea trip. The dive staff on the liveaboard checked our dive logs on our first day on board!!
