Hi,

New to this site (premier today, tho lurked for a few ) and wanted to know if this trip is still open?

A little about me as an Intro:

Certified in 99, dove for about 3 years. Then..a 5 year hiatus for Wife & child ! Resumed diving 4 years back and do about 2 trips a year, all to Caribbean / Mexico all with family. But, with son now at school, I guess I have to make some 'single' dive trips or coincide all with school calendar (which is OK in summer but not so much otherwise). Also, am buddy-less, wife isn't interested and kid's too young...so here I am, looking for a group with shared interest, camaraderie and easier trip planning.

We live in No VA, outside of DC, so if there are any events (HH?) or meetup's around, I'd be interested.

At this time I am planning on going on this trip. Bruce recommended Dominica as a good Caribbean dive destination, and the timing is right for a birthday trip for me! I'll have to check out flights.

Don't forget we ALL have to overnight in either San Juan or Miami. We will help EVERYONE with hotel roommates and rooms. OR you can book your own room and let someone share or just do a single. Just tell us so we can help!

I may have missed something, but why do we have to overnight in San Juan or Miami? Should I not book a flight directly to arrive in Dominica on the start date? (Obviously I haven't looked at flights yet!). Or is there a transfer time we need to meet up? Thanks.

I'm looking into flights and have a couple of quick questions from those who've been to DOM before.

1. Is Customs/Immigration done at DOM or at SJU? I can see a connection that can get me back to DC the same day (leave DOM at 3 -> SJU -> CLT -> IAD) but gives only 50 minutes at SJU. So, would that even be feasible to consider? If customs/immig is at SJU, then this is out.

2. Would there be any problem if I left DOM a day earlier on 6/1 instead of 6/2? I'm just looking for ways to get back home earlier.

Its possible doing a redeye from Ca that you can get there on the day of arrival but most of us have to overnight in either SJU or MIA as there is only one flight to DOM daily. This is why it is so PRISTINE...if it were easy to get too then it would look like the rest of the Caribbean.

If you can find direct flights AWESOME but if not then we'll help with overnighs.

Customs on your return is done at SJU so 50 mins in SJU is not long enough.

And yes you can leave a day early but it does not chg the pkg price other than for possibly nitrox.

The reason the diving is so AWESOME HERE is that its hard to get too! BUT ITS WORTH IT!!!
