So how have you done your Christmas Shopping this year? Have you let your fingers or your feet do the walking? Have most of your purchases been online or in line at bricks and mortar retailers???

I think my answer is yes. Nowadays, my Xmas shopping is a mix of online shopping, brick and mortar shopping and gift cards.

One of the more interesting changes has been my family switching to Barnes & Noble Nooks over the past year, and purchase of e-books or gift cards to let them purchase more media for their readers this year is a big item.

I have personally held out so far, looking for the ultimate tablet device to serve as my e-reader. I have a feeling that will change next year as the options seem to improve in each version, with better displays and more power as well as less expensive options too.

I have been holding out too on an e-reader so when you finally jump let me know...I'll probably just tag along...my best technology purchases are when I do that! ;)

Your needs may be different than mine. I'm looking at a tablet to replace my laptop, but many of them when you start getting into cloud technology, require a wifi connection which for your needs may not work as well.

If the improvements to the Ipad occur in the Ipad 3 that I am reading out (lighter, thinner with gorilla glass and a higher resolution), I may invest in that technology as I have already been using an Iphone for the last 18 months.

A dedicated E-Reader is running about $100. The Kindle Fire is $250. Ipad $500+. The pricing points make them almost totally different products depending on what makes most sense to you. If you are going to continue to carry your laptop, the $100 e-reader makes alot of sense. If you are going to try and replace it, the Ipad may work. Not sure what to make of the Fire. It can be the best of or worst of both worlds depending on what you read, and may need to wait to the next version to see what the improvements will be.

Still on the fence for most of the reasons you suggest. I too have been looking at an ipad so could go either way...hence my decision to wait. And as technology gets better the decisions sometimes get easier!

Since buying my iPad I have completely embraced ebooks. In fact I was considering a Kindle in June 2010 when I decided to go with the iPad. I thought I would never adjust to reading on an electronic device but it was an easy transition. It's great being able to adjust the font size when my eyes are feeling tired. You can also adjust the brightness in dark places, like on a plane at night. I always read when flying and inevitably I would be stuck in a seat where the overhead lamp didn't work well.

Oh yeah, to answer the original question....at least 90% of my Christmas shopping is done online
