Details HERE.

I have long maintained that if you find treasure, STFU about it. This why I take that stance.

Oh this isnt good. I hope Odessey files a appeal on this as it sets a bad precient for future cases. This treasure was in international waters not teritorial waters like spain claims.

"This is history. We bear witness to that fateful day 200 years ago," Ambassador Jorge Dezcallar de Mazar said. "This is not money. This is historical heritage."

Oh Bravo Sierra Liar, you weren't interested till it was found; nor helping/paying for the recovery. I'll bet a 8 reale that these coins end up at auction in short order considering spains nearly bankrupt.

The Spanish say it's about "historical heritage", but come on, it's really about the money.

If it were about historical heritage, they'd have taken on Mel Fisher's group a long time ago.

Now that they have precedent they might.

Our local waters have legislation requiring that all treasure be declared to the government and a percentage turned over to them. Their percentage is 100%.

So estimates that there are 11 billion dollars of treasure lying on the bottom of the ocean nearby really mean nothing as no one will mount any form of official hunt at their own expense just to benefit a baby kisser. So lots of "heritage" slowly rots under the sand.

Quite moronic and short sighted, but for politicians quite consistent.

That was battled long ago, and the fishers won. If they tried it now, they wouldnt recover much as the bulk has been dispersed to investors, fisher family, and sold at auction.

If I were odessey I would have taken the treausure out into deep international waters and dumped it and told Spain if they want go get it.
