I know this is an unusual post, but many people I know died just two hours ago when car bombs hit the Hadji Market (The Green Zone Bazaar) and the Green Zone cafe here in Baghdad, at 12:34 PM local time. It was the busy lunch hour before Ramadan starts tomorrow. CNN still has not reported exactly what happened, but it is very grim. It is the worst attack against the Coalition in Baghdad, ever. I had just been in the market an hour before the bombs ripped. Massive casualties. Many Iraqi and U.S. contractors dead as well as U.S. soldiers. I saw body parts strewn across the street as I rode my bicycle back to my compound.

Pray for all those souls. Things have changed here now. We are no longer "safe" in the Green Zone. Zarqawi has struck in the worst way. I am sure he will take credit for it shortly.

My prayers go out to all those who have died or been injured & to their families. Please stay safe.

Apparently not just car bombs. At least one suicide bomber with backback filled with explosives.

They were televising the story on the news before I left home this morning, so it has made it back to the states.

I am adamantly against this military action, and for that reason I am very concerned about the safety of the military and civilian personnel there. This is not good news to have such a massive attack within the Green Zone. I wish you, your associates and all there a safe stay for the duration. This is a very sad situation indeed.

Kent,
glad to know your safe. our hearts go out to your co-workers who weren't so lucky.

yes, it's a bad sign that Z finaly got someone into the Green Zone.

but it is an act of desperation by a failing insurgency.
the iraqi people are starting to turn against the foreign insurgents.

we just had a very successfull election in Afghanistan, Iraq is next.

we continue to pound nails into the coffins of the insurgencies in both countries.

be carefull, and stay out of the orange jumpsuits

OK, lets make a deal. If you stop telling me how to dive, I'll stop going down to the bus station at 2am to slap d***s out of your mouth.

I heard about this morning as I was getting ready for work. But your right, the news didn't really give an indication it was as bad as it was.

Be safe. My prayers are with everyone over there.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friends. You are there for a noble cause, to bring safety at home and liberty abroad .... please stay safe. We might have to take up a collection for that kevlar dry-suit!
