I noticed SD upcoming trip to the Outer Banks July 2013. Can you tell me a little about this trip, such as, depth? Is this a deep diving trip that requires more advanced training like advanced Nitro, Tech Diving, etc. Some of the wrecks are deep beyond recreational diving limits, so how do rec divers dive there?
On the website it mentions that the group would be doing 2 LONG dives a day? One of the participants that went on the Holbox trip lives there or dives there a lot. We celebrated his birthday there, but I cannot remember his name. He spoke about diving at the Outer Banks, but dives deeper (Advanced Nitrox).
Most dives are deeper... 80-120 feet. BUT they are quite amazing and the STANDARD size tank is a 95/100 cf tank so you have LOTS of air or nitrox to breathe!
NO you do not need any advanced training beyond AOW and perhaps NItrox so you can stay down longer. These depths are PERFECT for the benefits of Nitrox!
MOST of the divers are recreational divers and if we have any technical divers they go in first and have to work around the recreation divers not the other way around. I will only be diving recreational limits as will most everyone on the trip.
Not too long ago recreational limits were 130 feet and many divers still consider them the true limit. The agencies started using 100ft as the recreational limit and you can still do all the dives and stay in the >100 range. When someone says a wreck is 115ft they mean its 115 to the sand and you can stay on top of the wreck and be in less than 100 ft so within any definition of "recreational" limits.
I hope this answers your questions on diving NC. Kamala
