IMPORTANT AIRFARE UPDATE:

As John mentioned...flight options in and out of Bonaire have been changing recently. As of this week United has made some route chnages. Please see below.

You fly in and out of BON for the most direct and best routings or you can fly via CUR Curacao and then take a local carrier/island hopper to BON. The flights have changed a bit from last year as Houston nor Newark no longer have a redeye to Bonaire. The main carriers flying directly to BON are:

  • Delta Sat to Sat during the day via ATL
  • United Sat to Sat during the day via EWR
  • United Friday or Saturday during the day ADDING an extra night of hotel to your package via HOU if you fly on Friday since you MUST depart the following Saturday as there are NO Friday departures

I worked with my travel agent and re-re-booked so I fly in on the Friday and out on the Sat. By starting over I was able to get some better connection times (when we did the original re-booking I had a 1 hr connection in Houston and a 41 min connection in Detroit. Too tight for comfort on an international flight). Yes, it will cost me a bit more money but I don't loose a day's diving.

Now if we can just get the SD trip open!
And on the eighth day, God said "OK, Murphy, you take over."

Yes, it will cost me a bit more money but I don't loose a day's diving.


NOTE: John you would not lose a day of diving by arriving on Saturday. When arriving on Saturday last year on the Delta flight or this year on ANY of the carriers your first dive is Sat afternoon and your first 2 am dives are Sunday. Your last 2 am dives are Friday am and your last afternoon dive is Thursday afternoon.

The dives still work...you just don't get a day to sightsee.

If you do stay over Friday like John and I are doing...you will pay for an extra night since there are no flights going back on Friday. (Unless you fly to Curacau of course.)

I was looking at flights for a different week out of Houston on United and they no longer do the red eye flight - now it's a 1pm departure with a 6:51 pm arrival. The return flight departs at 7:30 am.

So for those going out of Houston it changes the dynamic - nor more wait for the room to open up but means diving doesn't start until Sunday.

Put me on the notify list since I might be able to do this one.

I noticed this as well. FYI how much more is the extra night if we flew in the 25th rather than Saturday with that Saturday May 3rd departure?

Acording to last year an extra night was $125. Add a bit for supper and drinks by the pool and we are looking at $150-160 for the extra night. I'm willing to pay that for an extra day shore diving.
