Before my next dive adventure I need a new mask. I've had a couple new masks over the years and also have had trouble breaking them in. I usually take a toothbrush and toothpaste to them and scrub for a while. Nonetheless I have trouble with them fogging for the first dozen dives or so. (no matter how much spit or defog I use)
Any suggestions? Is there a ritual for a new mask that works for you?

Some people take a lighter and 'flash' burn the oils off of it. It seems to work.

I have used regular (non gel) toothpaste, but since that didn't work.....others have recommended "Soft Scrub" cleaner.

I wash the entire mask with dawn dishwashing soap a time or two. Then I do the soft scrub with a sham-wow a few times. then windex and a paper towel. make sure you rinse very very well between washings in pretty hot water. I have a tiny bottle of windex in my mask box that I use a couple times a trip to keep it clean.
Each wreck has a tale to tell about its life and its demise.
If you are observant while diving in dark places listen to the account each has to tell, You cannot come away unaffected.
