WHAT IS A PM:
PM's are 'private messages' i.e email via the SingleDivers.com forums. Only premier members and above can see pm's and they securely protect your privacy/personal information such as email address while allowing you to see what everyone else sees real time. No email client can do this which is why we use our forums for this important communications purpose.
You may PM any other premier member and above and that conversation is private between only the two of you. No one can see your PM's.
WHY ARE THEY USED BY SD.COM:
We use what we call the OFFICIAL TRIP PM that we add everyone on a trip too so we can have one source of communication with you. Yes we use the forums and we will link to those discussions called threads/topics via the TRIP PM so you can easily find it since there are so many topics in our forums.
The only drawback to the PM's when used as the primary means of communication with everyone is the tendency for the user to hit 'reply' to communicate with us. When this is done the reply which no longer contains the question or content it was referring too is now stripped off AND the reply lands in everyone on the trips' email inbox. Pretty soon the trip goers tune out this important trip communication because it is no longer important....its just 'chit chat'.
So we ask that you do not reply back to the message unless there is NO OTHER OPTION and that you use the links provided if we need your input or you PM or email the trip coordinator or myself or our admin for help.
When used properly the TRIP PM is loaded with important updates and information that you will need for your trip usually sent by Kamala aka WreckWench or the Trip Coordinator for the trip.
HOW DO I FIND THE PM'S IN THE FORUMS?:
Log into www.singledivers.com
Click on Forums then TAKE ME TO THE SURFACE INTERVAL FORUMS
You should still be logged into the forums but for security purposes you may have to log back into the forums (to do so login in the upper right)
You'll know you are logged in if you see your Screen/Display/Login name in the upper right corner. If you are NOT logged in, it will say Welcome Guest.
NOW..... look to the left of your Screen Name and you'll see a grey icon shaped like an open letter THESE ARE YOUR PM's.
If you have NEW UNREAD PM's there will be a red number in the corner of the grey envelope icon.
Simply click on the red number OR the grey envelope icon and you will be taken to your PM's and the PM system.
Alternatively you can also reach your PM's by click on the drop down menu next to your Screen Name
Then click on PERSONAL MESSENGER and you'll be in the PM system.
HOW TO ACCESS YOUR PM's and/or the OFFICIAL TRIP PM if you are on a trip with us:
1. Go to www.singledivers.com
2. Login
3. Click on GO TO SURFACE INTERVAL FORUMS under FORUMS
4. You will be transferred to our forums aka the original website aka our "old website"
5. In the upper right at the very top you will see your screen name and you will see to the left of it a small grey envelope. It should have a red number in it showing how many new messages you have or if greyed out it is just an easy access to your PM's or messages.
6. This is where the OFFICIAL TRIP MESSAGE IS LOCATED and you can read it all an not have to rely on the email recap.
WARNING: Do NOT DELETE THE TRIP PM as you can NEVER be added back. Do not delete the conversation, do NOT LEAVE the conversation, do NOT DELETE DUPLICATE POSTS etc. if you do you will end up deleting the PM and can never get notices or follow ups.
