Hey Gang -

Airfare can be purchased now so I'm wondering which routes most of you will be taking. If none of the routes above appeal to you, post a reply so we can all brainstorm on possible tours if the layover allows.

Thanks

My bad - I mixed up airlines.  It's Etihad that goes thru Abu Dhabi.

Do you have much of a layover in Doha?

I land at 5:05 pm local time, and depart at 2:40 am. So, I've got several hours of downtime.

I've been checking flights and the best I can find right now is on Emirates out of Orlando ( I live in SW Florida). I'm planning a 21 hour layover in Dubai so I can tour the city and get a hotel room for the night. I'll arrive in Male on Friday at 2:30 which gives me an extra day there.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open for them.

Emirates from DFW to Dubai.  Arrive Dubai 3/3 11:55 AM leave 3/4 2:45 AM.  Arrive Male 3/4 7:50 AM.  So have a long lay over in Dubai and arrive a day early in Male.

I took Emirates to Indonesia last year, wonderful experience, well it was business class.  I was flush for a moment!  I am sure you are all aware on a coach ticket, with layover more than 8hrs, they have a program that they provide you with a room and a meal ticket included in the price of the ticket.  For business class the layover must be longer than 6 hours.  Emirates provided transportation to the hotel and pickup at the appropriate time and speedy check in.

Hi Wildtang
I'm booking economy on Emirates and there is no mention of a room. I guess it is for higher priced tickets. Since I will be arriving at 12:30 pm on 3/3 but do not leave until 9:40 on the 4th I plan to sightsee and rent a room. My flight arrives in Male at 2:55.

Thank you again for the helpful info.
How unfortunate that I didn't book last week. My flight has gone up $400. Not sure if I should book now or wait and hope it goes down again

Would not wait very long as airfare might not go down but definitely will go up.

A lot of the price variation right now was due to sales and currency fluctuations recently.

I'm flying Emirates out of ORD on 2/23 at 19:40 and get into MLE on 2/25 at 7:50 am. I have an extra day to rest in Male and need a hotel recommendation if anyone has one!

I'm leaving on 3/5 at 11:10am and have a 19-ish hour layover in Dubai. I'm hoping to get out and explore and definitely going to take them up on the free hotel stay!

I see I should nail down my air to Dubai.

I plan to spend at least 2 days there to see the city & hope to arrive in Male on the AM of the 5th  for the 10 day trip.  I'll need to recheck flt schedules again this week end - it's been so long.

Anyone want to share a room in Dubai  3/2 (or 3/3)  & check out early the 5th?

I was looking at "The Arabian Park Hotel" that has an odd location but provides free shuttle services .
