When in doubt...its best to allow you ALL to be the most creative 'you can. So we are going to use one of our fail safe standby's.... Alphabet Soup!  This is where we choose a letter of the alphabet and you come up with a costume starts with that letter.

So this year's letter is "S"...

So anything that starts with an "S"counts!

  • school kid
  • soccer player
  • star
  • safety sausage
  • shrink
  • skunk
  • scientist
  • school teacher

you get the idea! If it starts with an "S".... its going to be a WINNER!!!!

:thankyou:

One final note... we need 10 contestants to run the contest and while I will participate...I can't win so we 10 add'l contestants to me!!!

AND PLEASE keep your costume a surprise...its more fun that way!

PARTICIPANTS IN OUR 2016 CONTEST!!! (we need 10 to participate!)

Some of you may have seen this before but...  In the distant past, I spent a lot of time around costumers at science fiction conventions and a few thoughts have stuck with me.

Two rules for creating a costume:

  1. No Costume is no costume – brought in after a woman appeared naked on stage. Her costume was “Sky Clad for a Wiccan Ritual”.
  2. No Foodstuff as your costume – brought in after someone covered themselves with chocolate and went on stage as the Easter Bunny.  The hot stage lights melted the chocolate and we had a heck of a time cleaning up the resulting slippery mess.

And now a few words of wisdom gathered from those years:

1. Green food colouring on skin will take about a week to fade. A lawyer going to court with green skin will raise a few eyebrows.
2. Check the width and height of ALL the doorways and halls along the path before you put on your 15ft wings.
3. Batteries WILL fail at the worst possible time.
4. Even an obviously fake weapon will get you noticed. Even an obviously fake weapon pointed at a Police Officer will get you their undivided attention.
5. Pyrotechnics will either fail or go off when least expected.
6. Walking into a McDonalds in full Klingon get-up will get you noticed. 20 Klingons walking into a McDonalds will clear the place out.
7. A costume that takes half an hour to put on will probably take a half hour to take off. Plan your washroom breaks appropriately.
8. Gravity still works. A Superman cape will not let you fly if you fall off the stage. Make sure you can see the stage edge through your mask.
9. (On a related note) Even though I am called a "Catcher", I am not putting my delicate body between the floor and you and your 600lb motorcycle.
10. A costume made of fur that covers you from head to toe will probably be hot. Figure out how to provide ventilation and water. And remember the washroom breaks.
11. A bar full of Klingons, Stormtroopers, Trekkies, Wizards, Fairies, Knights, etc. all singing and dancing to The Time Warp from Rocky Horror Picture Show is ... surreal.

And on the eighth day, God said "OK, Murphy, you take over."

I have heard it called "Sky-Clad".
Actually Skyclad is not naked. Gerald Gardner who coined the term talked about specific ceremonial items (cords, jewelry, athame, etc.) that were worn. It is what makes being skyclad, or clothed by the sky, different than being simply naked. But also begs the question, if doing an indoor ceremony, are we now ceilingclad?

Just musings from a misspent youth.
