Here's a version from the guys over here....

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and we’re all alone,
Civilians, soldiers and sailors deployed far from home;

We don’t have stockings hung by the chimney with care,
Instead we have flack vests, weapons and gear;

We don’t have Santa, but we have insurgents galore,
All firing rockets, mortars and more;

All of the troops have turned in for the night,
Only to wake with a horrible fright;

Rockets and mortars roar through the night,
Exploding in the air, what a wondrous sight;

The air bursts and impacts all throughout the base,
Keep all the troops still, as if frozen in place;

Pulses are pounding, and hearts they do race,
Deadly weapons exploded all over the place;

Shrapnel and gravel are flung everywhere,
The fresh smell of explosives hangs in the air,

Grabbing our gear, weapons and vest,
All the troops scatter while wishing the best;

Everyone’s thankful, their aim ain’t so good;
For all we have overhead is a thin piece of wood;

The tracers they shoot recklessly into the air,
All come back down with a plink here and there;

Our .50’s engage, responding en masse,
Soon the insurgents stop and start hauling ass;

The rockets have stopped, the attacks in the past,
But silently we wait, as if the moment won’t last;

Now the Apaches launch, taking flight into the night,
All blacked out, its strange looking site;

Forward they rush to the site of trouble,
Firing missiles and guns, blasting rocks into rubble;

The insurgent position, now reduced to black ash,
All that is left of them is rubble and trash;

Santa’s not coming; we know that’s a fact,
He’d have to be crazy to visit Iraq;

Though some troops get boxes, letters and presents from home,
Some troops get nothing; they’re here all alone;

Others will get e-mails, wishing them well,
Some still get nothing, living their own silent hell;

But one day it happens, some parcels arrive,
Letters, boxes and presents stacked very high;

Though all are claimed by troops they are for,
Those without any silently head for the door;

When out of the blue, an envelope is viewed,
Sitting alone, no name on it’s seen;

The card is quite simple, inked with crayon or pen,
It’s a holiday wish from an anonymous friend;

Wishing us well, in a land far from home,
To all troops deployed, scared and alone;

Though Santa has stayed far away from this place,
A stranger back home extended a sweet, warm embrace.

God Vinny....thank goodness my keyboard is far enough away from the tears I can
't stop flowing right now. I can hardly imagine you guys NOT having contact from home.

Please send me the names of any commanders who have guys who don't receive mail, gifts etc. I've put in for one or two units already with guys who are on the front lines or doing the cold campfire missions since they have the worst stints there.

We will be sending care packages for the commander to distribute to them. If your unit has similar guys let me know. Thanks Vinny and God Bless hun! -ww

Vinny that is so sad! I am so sorry that there are guys/gals overthere without and mail/packages from home. Let us know if there is something we can do.
