Hey gang...I've got a great deal for Fiji in the fall of 2005 that I'll be posting before the end of the year! Now I need to know AND PLAN for where you all want to go in 2006 in the South Pacific??? And when??? Early in 2006? Summer? Fall? Usually Dec - March is the worst time for the S. Pacific...in fact Wakatobi is closed Jan-March.

So...is it going to be Papau New Guinea??? or Wakatobi??? or someplace else??? Let me know! -ww

-edited to fix the dates. -ww

Last half of the year always works best for me. April-June it is almost impossible for me to get away (except for maybe a day here and a day there). January- March is marginal but could be done, the earlier in the year the better. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the feedback BlueDolphin...and for noticing I had the wrong dates in my original post. The Fiji trip is Oct/Nov of 2005 and I hope to have that trip posted this next week. We need to plan for 2006 and the contenders so far are:

Wakatobi
Truk Lagoon
PNG

And other votes either for timeframe to travel or the destination??? NOTE: Certain parts of the world are impossible for our active military to travel too which is one of the reasons that we are doing Fiji in 2005 so that our military members can join us. Thanks for your input...-ww

Well, being the Japanophile that I am (lived there for almost a year), Truk Lagoon sounds amazing. Do you have some good informative links that you could post for some light -or deep- reading? Thanks!!!!!

Truk sounds good. Its also very close to Yap and Guam, so could do multiple stops....And speaking of Japan, there is some great diving in the Southern Ryuku's; Okinawa, Ishagaki, Yonaguni (home to the sunken monuments).

Who knows where the military will and won't be able to travel by 2006!

Oh, and I hope Fiji will be before Dec 05. I will have to be back at work by the 1st of Dec.

OK. I found a site, but can't seem to get it posted right. The site is www.visit-fsm.org/.

For Truk Lagoon, the spelling on the site is Chuuk.

I'll put a vote in for PNG since I've been to Wakatobi and will be in Truk in Feb/Mar of 2005. I'm sure those two spots will be worth revisiting but I really want to do PNG on ZD's birthday 6/6/06.

PNG sure sounds tempting to me. One of my former high school students spent years diving the world and said the one place he would go back to in a heartbeat is PNG.

Oooooh Dr Bill...that sounds like a challenge! We have finally found a destination that you have not been too and would consider going too! LOL!!! -ww

I understand Wakatobi is fantastic and of course being into wrecks like I am...Truk is high on my list. I guess you all have to help make the decision. While we are at it...liveaboard...liveaboard/land combo....or all land based diving????

If PNG or Truk I'd vote for a liveaboard. Wakatobi is land based but 3 boat dives a day and unlimited shore dives(they taxi you to different spots too!).

I met one of the Wakatobi owners at a party during dema this year. I was not to impressed. He seemed kind of a scammer. Truk Lagoon on the other hand is in my back yard. Who know's maybe I can schedule some buisness down there when you go. I have a tenitive trip planned for June or July with a friend from the states. Of course as I told you before WW. IF you are going to Truk (Chuuk) let me know. I have good contacts there.
If I meet up with you all Ill show you my secret stash of mophine!

Cheers
Jim
