That is the one of the burning questions anyone getting on a plane, boat or other vehicle of mass transit is worried about. The good news is that the presidents of major diving and travel related carriers are advising clients not only of all the proactive measures they are taking but also of all the economic measures they are taking such as free change and cancellation fees etc.

So I've decided to compile as many as I can here. PLEASE share any similar letters you've rec'd from either Diving, Airline, Cruiseship or other mass travel/tour providers.  :thankyou:

Hi Kamala,

In recent days, we’ve received a number of questions about how the world Coronavirus event will affect travel.  Please read through the attached document carefully and contact us if any of the points apply to your clients. Since this is such a fluid situation, it is impossible to predict how it might affect your Red Sea trip. We will certainly keep you updated.

Warm regards,

Travel Update from Wayne Brown

Coronavirus (Covid-19) – As the health of our guests is of the utmost importance to us,  we’d like to reassure everyone with a quick update. At this time, every destination in which Aggressor Adventures operates has either banned or automatically quarantined (through the incubation period) anyone who recently traveled to China. They have also increased immigration checkpoint screenings for fever and other signs and symptoms of illness.

All combined efforts show that new cases inside China have begun to drop and the travel ban/quarantine is limiting the spread of this virus. As always, we continuously monitor all our destinations for the safe travel of our guests, which includes local health issues. If we get news of any virus spread to our destinations, we will be sure to update everyone again.

Should you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us or your travel agent.

Thank you!

A message from our SVP and Chief Marketing Officer, Ryan Green

To our valued Customers,

There is no higher priority to our entire Southwest Family than the Safety of our Customers and Employees. We are in close communication with medical professionals, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), government agencies, and internal teams to stay on top of this evolving situation. According to the most recent information from the CDC, for most people, the immediate risk of being exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to be low.

We want you to feel confident when traveling with Southwest Airlines. As a result, we have enhanced some of our cleaning procedures in the interest of our Customers' and Employees' health and safety.

Aircraft Cleaning: We spend between 6-7 hours cleaning each aircraft every night, and, as of March 4, 2020, we have enhanced our overnight cleaning procedures. Typically, we use an EPA approved, hospital-grade disinfectant in the lavatories and an interior cleaner in the cabin. Now, we are expanding the use of the hospital-grade disinfectant throughout the aircraft, and it will be used in the cabin, on elements in the flight deck, and in the lavatory. This goes beyond the standard CDC guidelines.

Also, we equip each of our aircraft with a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter, which filters out recirculated air onboard each plane to remove airborne particles. HEPA filters are also used in hospitals to provide patients with clean air.

To learn more about our enhanced aircraft cleaning procedures, visit our blog for a detailed overview, along with a video and photos of the process.

In addition, I want to take a moment to remind Customers of our flexible policies. These policies have always been in place at Southwest Airlines and provide our Customers peace of mind every day. We never charge Customers a fee to change or cancel (though fare differences might apply) their flights. If your plans change or if you decide to postpone your travel, the funds used to pay for your flight can be applied to future travel as long as you cancel your reservation at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled departure. The funds are valid for future travel up to one year from the original purchase date and must be used by the individual named on the ticket. Hopefully, these policies provide comfort to all of our Customers that they can book travel on Southwest as normal, and, if the circumstances change in the future, they can alter their plans without the penalty of a fee.

Rest assured, we are monitoring this developing situation closely, staying in regular contact with federal agencies, health organizations, and other experts. We've developed a host of resources to keep you informed and updated along the way, including our Travel Advisory on southwest.com and our Company blog, and we'll continue to post updates as this situation evolves.

Thank you for your patience and trust in Southwest Airlines. We are prepared to navigate through these challenging circumstances with your safety and confidence in Southwest Airlines at the forefront of everything we do.

We look forward to seeing you onboard soon,

The latest on COVID-19.

View in a web browser x_spcr2x2.png     jetblue_promotional_logo.jpg spacer.gif     Hello, Kamala,

On behalf of our 23,000 crewmembers at JetBlue, I want to thank you for flying with us. The fact that you trust JetBlue with your travel inspires us to deliver the signature JetBlue experience that has been our calling card for two decades.

I want to personally let you know that safety—your safety—is, and always will be, job one at our airline. Not only is safety built into the DNA of everything we are as a company, but that priority bears repeating in the face of any challenge, including the concerns posed by coronavirus (COVID-19). At JetBlue, we have worked for years to ensure the safety of our crewmembers and customers. Since January, our pandemic response team has been activated to ensure we are working closely with government agencies, our own infectious disease medical staff, and in coordination across the entire JetBlue family to support our customers during their travels. To that end, I want to share some of the steps we are taking.
  1. We were the first U.S. airline to suspend our change/cancel fees across all fare types in all markets so that you, our valued customers, could book with confidence should your travel plans change. Currently, all change and cancel fees for travel through 4/30/20 are waived, regardless of when you purchased your ticket. And, there are no change or cancel fees on new flights booked through 3/31/20 for travel until 9/8/20. Our customer support team is ready to support you with adjustments if you need assistance.
  2. We know how important cleanliness is during these times. To offer you peace of mind, we have increased aircraft cleaning each night, including the walls, windows, window shades, galleys, lavatories and floors. We are applying disinfectant that is effective against coronavirus across aircraft interiors including the places customers touch most - the tray tables, seat covers, armrests and seatbelts.
  3. All of our aircraft are equipped with hospital-grade high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters. All recirculated air is passed through these filters before re-entering the cabin or being mixed with fresh air. All of the air in the cabin is, on average, completely changed every three minutes.
  4. We have updated our inflight service standards. We've increased the availability of sanitizing wipes on board, temporarily suspended hot towel service, and you can expect to see our inflight crewmembers wearing medical-grade gloves during the service delivery to further limit contact points.
  5. In our airports, we are disinfecting common surfaces more frequently and we are making hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes widely available throughout our terminals. We are encouraging customers to self-scan boarding passes - you can download a mobile boarding pass on the JetBlue app.
As of today, authorities have not announced travel restrictions to any destinations where we fly. Some countries, including the U.S., have restrictions in place for customers who have recently been to certain international destinations. Please monitor these closely.

You can always find our latest coronavirus information on our blog. You can also learn more about the coronavirus and specific information for travelers on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.

Your confidence in JetBlue inspires us to deliver the safe JetBlue experience you've always known. We at JetBlue never take for granted your travel decisions and look forward to welcoming you on board soon.

Dear Kamala,

Our first Spirit Value is safety, and I want you to know what we're doing to live up to that value and keep Guests like you and our Spirit Family safe and healthy. I spent the last week traveling through our network and talking with Guests and Team Members firsthand about their concerns regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus, and I'd like to tell you what we're doing to respond.

Since January, we've been closely monitoring the virus and enhancing our procedures. We're working closely with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and industry leader MedAire along with other authorities to remain in compliance with all requirements, both domestically and internationally.

To protect you, we've been working around the clock to keep our facilities clean and teams prepared, starting with distributing additional cleaning supplies to our stations and increasing our onboard supply kit quantities for our inflight teams. On our planes, our usual cleaning procedures have always utilized hospital-grade disinfectants approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as effective against the COVID-19 coronavirus. To give our Guests even more peace of mind, we've expanded the cleaning protocols that our teams utilize on aircraft, focusing on high frequency touch points such as handles, seatbelt buckles, tray tables and armrests.

Our onboard air is also cleaned throughout each flight, with every aircraft in our all-Airbus fleet equipped with state-of-the-art HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters that capture 99.97% of particles. For the most up-to-date information about our efforts, you can always visit our dedicated page on Spirit.com.

In late January, we began offering flexible travel options to our Guests who reach out with concerns about the COVID-19 coronavirus. To book with confidence, our Guests have asked for flexibility in their plans and we responded to that feedback by waiving all fees for impacted Guests who need to adjust their plans. You can read more about our policy here.

While the effects of this virus are serious, we've seen and learned from others like it before. In the past decade we've weathered the Swine Flu, the Bird Flu, Ebola and more, so while this virus is significant, we'll get through it together, just like we have the rest. We remain dedicated to serving you every day with the same commitment to our values you've come to know.

I look forward to seeing you on a Spirit flight soon.

  uber-logo-69x43_2x_white.png

Kamala,

The safety and well-being of everyone who uses Uber is always our priority. We are actively monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and are taking steps to help keep our communities safe.

As we all adjust to new precautions, I want to highlight a few actions we are taking:

Supporting public health authorities
We have a team available 24/7 to support public health authorities in their response to the epidemic. Working with them, we may temporarily suspend the accounts of riders or drivers confirmed to have contracted or been exposed to COVID-19. We’re also consulting with an epidemiologist to make sure our efforts as a company are grounded in medical advice.

Helping affected drivers and delivery people
Any driver or delivery person who is diagnosed with COVID-19 or is individually asked to self-isolate by a public health authority will receive financial assistance for up to 14 days while their account is on hold. We’ve already helped drivers in some affected areas, and we’re working to quickly implement this worldwide.

Helping to keep cars clean
We are working to provide drivers with disinfectants to help them keep their cars clean. Supplies are very limited, but we’re partnering with manufacturers and distributors to source as much as possible. We’ll be prioritizing distribution to drivers in cities with the greatest need.

Giving you options for food delivery
We understand that you may be relying more on food delivery right now. If you prefer, you can leave a note in the Uber Eats app to ask your delivery person to leave your food at the door.

Sharing advice to stay healthy
We’re reminding everyone who uses Uber to follow guidance from public health authorities. If you’re sick, stay home and away from others. Wash your hands frequently, and cover your cough or sneeze. For more information, visit the World Health Organization website.

Additionally, there have been reports of discrimination linked to the current situation. I want you to know this is never okay—every rider and driver is expected to follow the Uber Community Guidelines, which clearly prohibit discrimination. In times of uncertainty, it is especially important that we be our best selves.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep our communities safe, and for supporting one another as we navigate this moment together.

Dara Khosrowshahi
CEO

Seems to me the real concern is being quarantined for 2 weeks in a foreign country, at this rate any foreign country.  Then quarantined again when you get home for 2 another weeks.  All at your own expense.  I wouldn't even consider getting on a plane until they stop quarantining people. I am feeling better and thought about going on another trip but won't until this overly intrusive quarantining nonsense is over with.  Airlines and dive ops can't do a thing about that except dance around it.  This really just the flu and probably not as bad as the flu, what is going to happen if an actually serious pandemic occurs and I am out of the country?  Will I ever see home again?

Yes I think you are right...the worst aspect currently is new countries's initial response to quarantine you. Hopefully this dies down as the weather warms up and spread is abated.

Several bits of good news... THANKS TO ALL THE DOCS WHO ARE MEMBERS & OTHER HEALTH CARE OFFICIALS we have been in contact with:

  • 2 companies now have vaccines ready for human trials in April
  • Fast tracking of the vaccine has been done to get it thru the FDA process
  • Chinese researchers have found a sweet spot for propagation of the virus i.e 47.7 degrees F. They have also found that the virus reacts negatively to heat so this should help the cessation of the spread as soon as it warms up which is happening soon.
  • Some media outlets are acknowledging they have perhaps over reacted a bit.
  • As a relative comparison... 60-65k people in the US die from the flu annually.
  • The last contagion to break out was Swine Flu and reports said until it started to present 'worse than the regular flu' no action was taken by the govt. When it was taken somewhere between 20,000 on the low end and 40,000 on the high end, people were infected with it and over 1000 people had died. When action was finally taken the biggest overall theme was to not panic, wash your hands, use hand sanitizers, keep hands away from mouth and face etc.
  • And you are LEAST likely to die from coronavirus than any other contagion in the recent past:
  • 30% death rate from Eboli
  • 20% death rate from Sars
  • 17% death rate from Mers
  • 10% death rate from Swine Flu
  • 1-2% death rate from Corona virus

As for the involuntary quarantines they appear to be slowing now that Korea has aggressively tested a massive amt of their population and have found the actual mortality rate and infection rates is significantly lower than reported. Hopefully this will help with some of the hysteria.

As an aside...the flu was named for insurance purposes Jan 24, 2020. So just like with a storm...if you had insurance before that date you are fully covered EVEN FOR CORONAVIRUS matters. If you have it after that date you are covered for all normal trip matters.

See who's changed their booking and payment policies (MOSTLY EUROPEAN BUT SOME US PROVIDERS)

London's City Cruises including ThamesJet - the 50 minute speed boat experience - is waiving the amendment fee for customers who want to postpone their bookings within 48 hours of the planned cruise to another travel date in 2020. It has also implemented a new cleaning directive on boats. Staff on board have been issued with hand-sanitiser, and those preparing food and serving drinks will wear protective gloves at all times.  All surfaces which customers may come into contact with will be cleaned with anti-bacterial spray every 30 minutes and every boat is being cleaned with disease control chemicals at the end of the day.

Abercrombie & Kent is allowing more flexible booking terms for new and existing clients. For all new tailor-made and Luxury Expedition Cruising bookings made between now and the end of March, clients may postpone or transfer their bookings to the same or a new destination up until 60 days prior to departure to an alternate date that departs before the end of 2021. Clients with existing bookings can also postpone and rebook to the same or new destination for travel up to the end of December 2021. For villa bookings across Europe, the operator said it will work with individual villa owners on a case-by-case basis. Given that its Escorted Touring programme offers set departures, standard booking conditions apply.

Airbnb will waive its 3% host fee for those hosts who refund more of the guests' money than the cancellation policy mandates. When cancelling a booking, the guest fee paid to Airbnb will be credited in the form of a voucher to be used for a future booking at a later date. Airbnb will also feature more prominently rentals with the new 'More Flexible Reservations' tools. Hosts are still able to set their own cancellation policies and are being encouraged to be as flexible as possible in the current situation.

Norwegian Cruise Line has introduced a Peace of Mind policy, allowing guests who book up to September 30 to cancel up to 48 hours prior to departure and receive a 100% future cruise credit for use on any sailings up to the end of 2022. The offer applies to all new and existing bookings beginning on March 10.

P&O Cruises and Cunard are allowing all guests with existing and new bookings on holidays departing before August 31, 2020 to cancel up to 48 hours prior to departure and receive a future cruise credit equivalent to the cancellation fees and refunds on any remaining monies paid. The credit may be redeemed against any sailing up to the end of March 2022 for bookings made before December 31, 2021. The credit is non-refundable, but may be used on multiple sailings. Travel Agent commission will be protected on the cancellation fees and the future cruise credits will be fully commissionable. In addition, guests traveling before August this year will receive additional onboard credit for bookings made before March 11 of £100 to £600, depending on the length of their cruise.

Guests who cancelled bookings between February 1, 2020 and March 11, 2020 for sailings before the end of August 2020, but who did not opt to convert their cancellation charge into a future cruise credit, will have this automatically credited to their account for use on a future holiday.

Guests travelling after August 2020 are able to transfer free of charge to any alternative cruise date, prior to paying the balance of their holiday.

The future cruise credit given to P&O Cruises guests following Arcadia's itinerary changes will now be extended until the end of December 2021.

If Only is waiving amendment and cancellation fees on all new bookings made for the rest of this month. It said customers will have the flexibility to cancel if the situation or their customers' circumstances change. "As always, we will follow the advice of the World Health Organisation in terms of the destinations we promote, so rest assured that your customers' safety remains a top priority," it added.

Premier Holidays has launched a Flexible Booking policy for new bookings until 31 March. Customers can delay their holidays until 11 weeks before their original departure date and rebook their trip for a date within 11 months.

Silversea is protecting travel agent commission on all bookings cancelled under the Cruise with Confidence programme set to depart between 9 March and 31 July 2020.  This is offered in addition to the Royal Caribbean Group's Cruise with Confidence programme, in which guests with cruises departing from 9 March to 31 July 2020 may cancel their voyages up to 48 hours prior to their sailing date and receive a future cruise credit valid for two years. Silversea will allow travel partners to retain any commissions already paid, and pay commissions on bookings cancelled between 9 March and 31 July 2020 after they were paid in full, provided the cancellation occurs outside of the 48-hour cancellation window outlined in the Cruise with Confidence programme.

Gold Medal and Travel 2 have changes their cancellation and amendment policies so agents booking new packages until the end of March will be able to amend or cancel their package holiday booking at no extra charge. Trips can be amended at any time, free of any charges, and customers will only pay the fare difference with the airline/hotel if applicable. Cancellation fees are also being waivered.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises has launched a temporary initiative, Regent Reassurance, for all Regent voyages embarking March 10, 2020 through September 30, 2020. Guests who have a confirmed booking by 30 April 2020 now have the option to cancel their voyage up to 48 hours prior to sailing and receive a 100% Future Cruise Credit, for the cruise portion value of the cancelled cruise. The Future Cruise Credit can be applied to any new reservation within one year on any Regent voyage sailing between now and December 31, 2022.

Balkan Holidays has pushed back its balance due dates to four weeks before departure in light of coronavirus concerns. Previously balances were due 10 weeks in advance. For new summer 2020 package holiday bookings to Bulgaria made March 31 clients can change their holiday to another date in the summer 2020 or summer 2021 seasons with no admin charge up to 14 days prior to departure.

Kuoni has launched Kuoni Flex, a new initiative which allows people to switch their holiday to alternative travel dates without charge right up until up seven days before departure. It is available until March 16 on holidays departing from now until the 15 February 2021 to Mauritius, the Maldives, Thailand, Bali, Sri Lanka, the Caribbean and Mexico amongst others, plus selected group tours to India. It hopes the move will bring peace of mind about the impact of coronavirus. Kuoni has also beefed up its customer service team to deal with consumers' concerns and enquiries.

Emirates has introduced a new waiver policy for all booked tickets issued from March 7 until March 31 2020. Should customers decide to change their travel plans due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, customers can change their booking to any date for travel within an 11-month date range in the same booking class without change penalties. Difference in fare, if applicable applies. The policy covers all existing destinations across the Emirates network. The airline says it is also taking its aircraft cleaning process 'to the next level'. If the airline is alerted to any suspect or confirmed cases of infectious diseases, teams will be immediately deployed for a deeper cleaning with stronger, approved chemicals.

Royal Caribbean Cruises is now allowing customers to cancel up to 48 hours before departure for sailings on all of its brands - Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Azamara and Silversea - and switch to another date. The policy applies to both new and existing cruise bookings and means guests will get a full credit usable on any future sailing in 2020 or 2021.

British Airways is waiving its change fee for new bookings until March 16. The policy applies to all BA routes. Any fare differences due to a date change will apply.

A message from our CEO, Patrick Pacious

To our valued customers,

We understand that with the rapidly changing updates on travel restrictions and cancelled or postponed public events, people are in different places when it comes to doing what is best for them and their families. We cannot stress enough that we believe in responsible and safe travel.

Travel is who we are, and it is important to us that you feel confident when choosing and staying with Choice Hotels®. That's why we are taking the following precautionary measures to provide peace of mind throughout your travels:

Environmental Cleaning Practices

As always, we are committed to upholding the highest standard of cleanliness by continuing to work closely with Ecolab, a global leader in cleaning products. Ecolab has shared best practices and the latest products that may be useful to combat the spread of COVID-19, and we have also provided our hotels with updated sanitation guidelines.

More information on our efforts can be found here.

As we continue to monitor developments and navigate through these challenging circumstances, we want you to know that you can rely on us always to put your health and safety first. Thank you for trusting in Choice.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

FROM CLEARY CAYMAN

Given the extraordinary spread of COVID-19 across the planet, today (Monday, March 16) the Cayman Islands government announced that all international flights to and from the Islands will be suspended on Sunday, March 22, for 3 weeks, although they have left open options to extend as the conditions in the future may warrant. As a result, we have no other option than to temporarily close our resorts, Little Cayman Beach Resort, Cayman Brac Beach Resort and Cobalt Coast Resort, beginning on Thursday, March 19, 2020. We will be working with our current guests to facilitate their evacuation prior to the Sunday deadline and to allow our team members to make their departure plans as needed.

We commend the Cayman Islands government on their aggressive steps to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We are hopeful that their early, aggressive action will shorten the shutdown period and allow us to get back to providing you, our guests, with the best dive hospitality in the Caribbean.

Our reservations office Reef Fantaseas, located in Saint Petersburg, Florida, is in the process of contacting all guests and group travel partners with upcoming reservations during the impacted period. We are waiving the change fees and are offering all guests the opportunity to rebook their vacation without penalty at the same guaranteed rate for any available date up two years from their original travel date. Guests will not be charged any additional amounts for changing their reservations to a future period.

For those guests with reservations outside of the impacted period, please know that we are closely monitoring the situation in the United States and in the Cayman Islands. We will provide ongoing updates as they are available in the weeks ahead. If your travel plans are impacted by future closures, please know that we will protect your reservation by waiving change fees and allowing you to select alternate travel dates in any available periods for up to two years from your original travel date as well.

This remains a dynamic and highly fluid situation that continues to deeply impact families across the globe. Our priority throughout this crisis remains the safety of our guests and team members and we will take whatever steps are required to accomplish this goal. At the same time, we are committed to welcoming guests as soon as the Caymans reopen to international flights and we are given the “all clear” from Government officials.

As this situation continues to develop, we will provide you with further updates and policy changes based upon the recommendations of governmental agencies, health organizations and other experts. If you have further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call our US reservations office at 800-327-3835.

Our team looks forward to welcoming you to our beautiful islands where you can once again enjoy the underwater wonders that have made the Cayman Islands a diver’s paradise.
