I only dive Gilboa in the winter and fall when the charters can't run. But, when trying out new gear it is an enclosed place that is pretty much guaranteed to be open. I can go down there over a weekend without using vacation and we go down to the US flag that I helped place at a 130 ft.
Also, it is far better than jumping off a charter boat in the middle of of the Great Lakes with gear that one has never used (like scooters).
I don't pretend that it is the most interesting diving available, but it gets my fix in and lets me stay proficient. And the people are always fun, especially when conditions are like this! I mean you have to be pretty single minded to go diving in these conditions.
Actually, the highlight would be the Gulfstream that they sunk in the shallow end. It is about 35 ft. down. There is also a school bus that we like to swim through for our practice in swimming through tight areas.

Naw, I think it's the motorcycle- just look at DMP's avatar....Hey! No one told me there was a Dr. Pepper machine! I'm IN! I mean, wouldn't you like to be a pepper, too?

As usual you are correct! There is a tee-shirt sold at the quarry that is not so inaccurate. It states the "Gilboa Trout" is a more agressive feeder than a Great White on the Great Barrier Reef.hey!! You forgot FISHIES!!!! Who can go diving without seeing FISHIES!!! blub blub.
I have seen a guy with fish bites on his face because he went to the usual spot were the divers feed the fish and forgot to bring food! I am also told that there are Paddlefish in the deep end, but that is a never ending search as they don't like diver's bubbles. There are recent sightings though.

Wha-hoo! Take a camera with you! I want to see a paddlefish while diving. I have tried on two seperate occassions in the Missouri River in South Dakota but have not yet encountered one.I am also told that there are Paddlefish in the deep end, but that is a never ending search as they don't like diver's bubbles. There are recent sightings though.

brian...have the sunk the shikorsky helicopter yet.... when i was there this past summer they had plans for that... on the deep side i think...Actually, the highlight would be the Gulfstream that they sunk in the shallow end. It is about 35 ft. down. There is also a school bus that we like to swim through for our practice in swimming through tight areas.
and yes the fish are very aggressive on the schoolbus... i agree with ya on the gulfstream too... the guy i dove with there still has the pics of me sittin in the cockpit... if i could convince him to send them to me...i willl share them all with everyone... also ...i seen a bluegill or crappie ..not sure... but it was bigger than the biggest frying pan in my kitchen... what a meal that would be.... he likes to hang around dock 5... just above the gulfstream/.... i only dove the once... but its on my list of spot again this summer
