Actually, the highlight would be the Gulfstream that they sunk in the shallow end.  It is about 35 ft. down.  There is also a school bus that we like to swim through for our practice in swimming through tight areas.

brian...have the sunk the shikorsky helicopter yet.... when i was there this past summer they had plans for that... on the deep side i think...
and yes the fish are very aggressive on the schoolbus... i agree with ya on the gulfstream too... the guy i dove with there still has the pics of me sittin in the cockpit... if i could convince him to send them to me...i willl share them all with everyone... also ...i seen a bluegill or crappie ..not sure... but it was bigger than the biggest frying pan in my kitchen... what a meal that would be.... he likes to hang around dock 5... just above the gulfstream/.... i only dove the once... but its on my list of spot again this summer

No helicopter yet! I have a feeling that will be a big project. Also, I get the impression that Mike doesn't like divers in that deep part too much. He has had too many accidents happen there.

Let me know if you get back out there!

I am also told that there are Paddlefish in the deep end, but that is a never ending search as they don't like diver's bubbles.  There are recent sightings though.

Wha-hoo! Take a camera with you! I want to see a paddlefish while diving. I have tried on two seperate occassions in the Missouri River in South Dakota but have not yet encountered one.

they do have video of multiple paddlefish on there site... ive seen it... but for some reason i cant get them to play now.... maybe someone else will have better luck... www.divegilboa.com

i was there a week after the bad accident last summer... went down for dogdays.. i had 6 great dives in 2 days... but the deepest i got was the tubes at 66 ft... 41 degrees in a 7 mil wetsuit.... in june i think.... i had a diaphram go bad in my bc.. so i had to pretty much get back to the shallower areas.. but it was still a great weekend....

Where did you go on the Missouri River in South Dakota to see paddlefish. My understand is the best time is memorial weekend at Pickstown in the tailrace of Lake Francis Case. Timing is the key for this event. There is a spearing event held at this same site in July or August. Sponsored by two dive shops: one from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and the other from Kearney, Nebraska. I believe South Dakota is the last place you can spear game fish legally in fresh water in the United States.

Great shots, Bri. Nice fish, too. Ever do any spearing?

Good old Pickstown it was! We were at the base of the dam which subsequently supplied me with tons of fodder for my tides and current presentation courtesy of my sister. I tried again Memorial Day weekend last year thinking Donovan's out of Sioux Falls would have a boat going out, but there weren't enough people interested for them to pull a trip together and it didn't matter anyway because the weather was plain rotten with tornados and flooding everywhere. My first night in Sioux Falls I got stuck for hours in a Walmart during city Tornado warnings. They gathered us in the middle fo the store and I got yelled at when I ventured 10 feet off to look at sunglasses... :cool2:

I'll be back in July, but I will pass on the whole spear fishing thing. I just want pictures.

Never thought about spearfishing. I guess that I am too lazy to clean the fish when I am done and we don't get that many large ones up here anyways.

You didn't see the Koi at 20 ft. He as about the size of my arm. By the way, one thing about that quarry. It has the world's most spoiled fish. They sell fish food at the front office to take under and quarry owner will go out on the docks and feed them on off days. Those trout really are one of the major attractions at the quarry and they aren't always predictable :cool2: .

I am suprised that nobody commented on half of the place being in ice. That is where the video happened. Not great, but for my first bit of underwater video, I am not complaining.

Why would anyone yell at you for looking at sunglasses? Maybe the tornado really scared a walmart employee. Have to follow the Emergency Action Procedures you know. Let me know when your coming to the prairie to go diving. We won't have to wait for Donovan's boat. I have one ready to go. Get your camera ready to see some wild creatures of the deep below the dams in South Dakota.
