Capt Bill one of our beloved Dominican family and diving / whale crew needs our prayers and help. Capt Bill is in critical condition but stable for now after surgery on his leg. Over the years he has been a constant source of pleasure and delight to our members helping us find magical whales and the best diving in Dominica.

 

And now he needs our help. Please please please pray for him as he needs them very much to get thru this emergency and to get back on the road to health.

 

He also needs blood and medicines that while by our standards are fairly inexpensive but by Dominican standards are quite expensive, on top of this being the 2nd round of serious health issues regarding his leg he has gone thru. So any savings were depleted the first time he was hospitalized.

 

I will be sending him $100 and one other person has donated $50 which has prompted me to see if anyone else would be willing to donate ANY AMOUNT to help Bill out We will combine them and send via western union in batches to keep the fees from eating up too much of the money.

UPDATE FROM HIS LOVELY WIFE....

 

Hey Kamala.. Bill is awake! He moved his hands and his leg. He was able to nod this head to me for the first time making me so happy.  The tube is still in because his blood levels are still low

I'll let you know more as things change. Please keep sending prayers.

UPDATE:

 

It seems that if you need blood in Dominica you can only get it if people donate for you. So if you need 5 units... you need 5 people to donate a unit or else you will not get the blood you need.

UPDATE;

 

 I sent the $500 we have collected so far to the family so they could pay for much needed medicines and services. Unlike our country...if you can not pay...you do not get services. Its as simple as that.

 

Fortunately for a fee...they can have the money fairly instantly and she was able to pay for antibiotics he desperately needs and they started him on them yesterday. He is already starting to show some improvement and awoke enough to recognize his wife and blink his eyes at her. He has a very long ways to go but she is thrilled that our help has helped his start the journey towards healing faster than she could have done on her own.

 

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they have storms threatening the island on top of the medical issues. The storms are making it hard for people to go to the hospital to donate blood for him. ;(

UPDATE:

 

After 11 days in ICU along with storm watches and flood warnings... they are going to have to do a trac on him to ease his discomfort breathing via the tube. His wife is optimistic that he is steadily improving as no one thought he'd get this far. We sent the money we had raised and he's now getting important medications in his system which is helping tremendously.

 

We are very thankful for all those who have donated. We are still short of our goat... if anyone else can send a few bucks... we'd be extremely appreciative and his family beyond appreciative.

 

I'm going to try and upload a voice recording his kids sent him... it is heartwarming and heart wrenching all at the same time. Thank you ALL for your help. His wife keeps telling him that is American family loves him as much as his Dominican family. She believes that it is helping buoy his spirits.
