I've been dreaming of this trip for over two years and planning it since last June. Now it's finally time to do it. Normally when I do a long trip I go by myself. This trip will be different in that I will have a friend along for the first three stops. My friend Elisabeth is a married woman from Quebec I met on another dive trip. She is buddyless(a non posting member of SD too) and has always wanted to dive Palau and Truk. When I told her I planned to go she asked me to keep her in mind. So to make a long story short we kept in touch and she will be my buddy and roommate for Yap, Palau and Truk. I hope to do weekly updates here as the trip unfolds as well as a wrap up once I return. Feel free to PM me or post with any questions or advice.

On this trip I will be hitting 6 different spots to dive at and explore. Yap, Palau, Chuuk(Truk Lagoon), Pohnpei, Kosrae and lastly Kona, HI. At Palau, Truk, & Kona I will be on liveaboards as well as some limited time on land. The first 5 are part of a collection of different countries called Micronesia. Micronesia is a huge scattering of islands between Hawaii and the Philippines. Each of the six places I will visit has different types of diving to offer. At Yap they are best known for the Manta Ray dives. Palau is best known for the Blue Corner(among others) a legendary dive site which is on everybody's top 10 list. Palau will soon be known for being the next site for the TV show Survivor which starts on Feb 17th(the day I arrive in Palau). The show was filmed in Nov/Dec. Check it out to see this tropical paradise. Truk Lagoon my third stop is famous for being the location of Operation Hailstorm in World War II. The US sunk a lot of Japanese ships that day and the Lagoon is great place to wreck dive. Next stop is Pohnpei another place to dive with Mantas and hard and soft coral. It also has a lost village to explore. Kosrae is the last stop in Micronesia and is a whos who of indo-pacific hard corals. It too has a lost village which I'll check out. I might also take an Advanced Nitrox class here. Last stop Hawaii where I spend a week on the Kona Aggressor off the Kona coast. I've attached a map of Micronesia with my stops there highlighted. Below is my itinerary and some other info. I think 120 dives is a realistic goal if my ears and body hold out. 130 is even possible but I want to dive safely first. I'll be diving Nitrox on the liveaboards to allow for a that added edge against DCS. I've just started my hydration program by drinking lots and lots of water and taking an asprin every day.

:o Wow! Chuck sorry I will miss ya in Palau. I'll be there between March 5 thru the 15th. Do not forget the restaurants i refered you to in Palau and if you have a bite to eat in Truk I only suggest the Blue Lagoon.

I want to hear about Pohnpei and Kosrae. the only two places on you list i have not been to!

When you are in Palau sometimes the Aggressor does not stop at one of my favorite spots which is Turtle Cove. make sure and ask them to pull into that spot. One of the best dives.

Have fun :usflag: :usflag:
You must endeavor to pursue!

WW it's a dirty job but somebody has to do it. :wakawaka: I always wondered if it was the south pacific since it's north of the equator.

Don't want to start something new on the trip it could be messy. I just hope I don't eat to much. Liveaboards have a way of getting to my waist.

Ok... I cannot do something this cool. And I don't even have the experience to try something this cool. But I dig the lists and can appreciate the prep. If you are the right age you might recall the movie "The Endless Summer: In search of the Perfect Wave."

Here is my tribute to your way cool effort. And if I can see a picture or two I would count myself as among the blessed.
