For those of you who would like to do something for our military, please go to the web site below. Sign your name to the "thank you" card and then go visit the DOD website link. This is a brief message thanking the men and women of the U.S. military services and the compiled list of names will be sent out to our soldiers, sailors and airmen at the end of the month. So far there are less than 12 million names. What a pity. There should be hundreds of millions of "Thank You's". Please forward this message to your friends, so they can do the same. It takes less than a minute to sign the card. On the DOD website there is a section on "support our troups". If you are interested in finding out what you can do to "get involved", this would be a good place to start. Thank you for caring.

Please excuse a non-American a few words, but the same principle applies to all nations. I respect American servicemen (& women) as much as I do my own British ones, and applaud the sentiment of this thread. But don't let us confuse the dedication and sacrifice of the soldier (generic word) with the policy pursued by his political master. Much of what has been ordered to be done in recent years by the military of the USA, UK and several other nations has in my view been severely mistaken, and we have built up many problems for ourselves in the future.

We are now sufficiently distant from Vietnam to see it in perspective. The military were to a large extent not appreciated for the sacrifices they made and the terrible conditions they endured, but who can say now that the war there was anything other than a mistake?

I used to be in the military myself (a colonel), and am the son of an admiral. I left when I decided I could no longer accept orders that I deeply felt were wrong. After all, the military serves as leverage for the politician, nothing more. "My country right or wrong" was always dangerous dogma peddled by unscrupulous politicians.

I do hope this thought doesn't offend anyone, as that is very far from my mind.

Peter our intent is to applaude ALL service men and women regardless of nation if they are fighting for our collective freedoms. The original pinned post for this forum reads:

Many of our divers have the honorable distinction of proudly defending our country or their own as well as our freedoms here and throughout the world as members of the Armed Services! SD.com recognizes the sacrafices each of them makes to ensure all of our freedoms and rights that unfortunately many of us take for granted sometimes. SD.com not only welcomes our "Divers in Uniform" with open arms but also offers diving discounts for our active duty personnel. Please let us know who you are in this forum!

And may I add that we ALL thank each and everyone of you for keeping us safe and sound and for protecting our freedoms!
