Hi All,

I know that No Pressure has a Harley, and "HD Rider" obviously does, too. Just wondering if there were other bikers lurking around here. ...? :wavey:

I learned to ride at 13, used to have a Kawasaki 250 enduro, and also used to ride my big brother's Kawasaki 750 street bike.

I don't have a bike now, but have been daydreaming about buying one....or just riding B***H with someone. (BTW, I may RIDE B***H, but I do NOT ACT like one!)

Anyone wanna talk about Iron Ponies with me?

Laura

I've known Tom about three years, but I never understood his handle until now. Sometimes I'm really dense.

I have been planning a motorcycle purchase most of this year :D though it's getting put off to get my open water cert.

I can't quite justify the cost for a Harley just yet though so I've been looking at the HD look-a-like's namely the Kawasaki Vulcan Classic. A couple guys here at work are fairly hard-core riders (one commutes on a Nighthawk every day) so I get daily ribbing about "Where's your bike Chris?".

Ahh oh well. Maybe I'll win the lottery so I can accomplish everything I want right now! :wavey:

Hi there,

Yeah, I'd love to have a Harley, too, but to me, any bike is a good bike....as long as you are riding, that's what counts.... :wavey:

I like the Vulcan, with a name like that, it has to be good (I am a Star Trek fan)

I also really like the 04 Honda Valkyrie Rune....check it out on the web if you get a chance. She's a beauty.

Be safe and have fun

Walter,

You are not dense...sometimes things are so obvious we fail to see them.

Yes, but why were the Vulcans in Star Trek called Vulcans?

Well, I'd have to say that was because they were from the planet named Vulcan ...

Or is there some reason I don't know about?

Or is this humor that is going over my head?

Why was the planet named Vulcan? What's the origin of the name?

hephaestus (vulcan) god of the smiths that discovered the ways of working metal with fire. also unhappily married to aphrodite. am assuming that gene roddenberry might have been alluding to the planet, the characteristics of the species and their civilization, maybe the lack of emotions because i definately wouldn't just trap my wife and her lover together in a bed and leave it at that...although he was vengeful, so he did have emotions...

okay, enough rambling. why are they called vulcans?

Darlin',

You have the origin. The reason Vulcan was chosen as the planet's name was because of climate. Vulcan, being a smith, worked in a hot environment. Since the planet was much hotter than Earth, it was given the name Vulcan.

BTW, Vulcan's had emotions, they merely supressed them.

kind of like stoics. i remember about the repression thing 'cause that's why spock had such a hard time since he was a mix...wasn't like some eighty kazillion episodes and movies made to chronicle the angst of vulcan mixes?

Laura...like riding b**** as well, but would rather ride a crotch rocket solo to take advantage of the aerodynamics. met a very nice ex-SO once after telling him about my adventures on 2 wheels. he kept teasing me by saying it was my standard pickup line...hmmm...to tell you the truth i did use it a few times in bars, along with working on cars, and formula I races...sheesh...i need some new material. the "hi! my name is thanh. what's your name. so what do you like to do?" just gets boring after a while.

Forget lines. You're better off to be spontaneous, be confident and have fun. That's very attractive.

Oh yeah, way into bikes. Currently riding a Klein Palomino Race, which I'm finding is way underpowered these days. Does that count?

but sometime i scare them away with my spontaniety...little too wild :diver: ... like one time in band camp that i made up this story about a goat who stretched himself into a giraffe because he was hungary and then that other time in band camp....j/k. i make some of my close, physical platonic friends laugh because we sit in bars or something and recite cheezy pick up lines and vocal inflections. new guys to the group are always scared because they've seen that behavior before and wonder if it's universal.

'maus... klein palomino race? what is that? - specs please...but i like the name. i might try to christian a horse that.

Many years ago I tried to adopt Stoicism, after becoming very impressed with the character of Brutus in Julius Caesar, and spinning this interest into an in depth study of various Romans and Roman philosophies. It turned out to be an interesting social experiment. You would not believe how much more emotional people around you get when you repress yours completely. Seems like everyone in America is familiar with the sci-fi Vulcans, but they are completely unprepared to deal with a real person who shows no emotion whatsoever...

After several months, I gave up my fledgling attempt at being a Stoic, finding it a lot more fun to be ruled completely by my passions instead. ( and just the idea of thrusting a dagger in my leg DID spark some emotion in me, some Stoic I was )

I just realized this post has nothing to do with riding Hogs. :diver:
