UPDATED DETAILS (5/19/05):

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR.....
HOUSTON - Happy Hour #3!

:welcome:

This happy hour coincides with SEASPACE weekend - there will be SD'ers from out of town here to help with the show.... and lots of potential new SD'ers at the HH who hear about us at the show.... let's give them a huge Houston welcome!

Invite your dive buddies - or invite someone who is interested in diving but just hasn't made it their LDS for certification course yet!

Details:

Our favorite Latin SDer, Julio, has set up an evening for us to remember (er..uh... he says that remembering depends on how many adult beverages you have that evening... there's always a catch, huh?)

WHO: Divers (and wannabe divers) ... from anywhere!
WHAT: HHH #3
WHEN: Saturday, June 4th, 2005... 7:00 p.m. 'til the last person leaves!
WHERE: Havana Latin Grill and Bar
818 Travis, Corner with Walker, Downtown Houston
Phone number to Havana: 713.222.2254
WEAR: Latin Casual (no shorts or tennis shoes though!)

LIVE BAND!

No cover charge for SD members arriving before 10:00 p.m. - Let them know you're with SD (and/or a print out of this post). We'll be in the VIP room!
Valet parking available!

Additional Details from Julio:
Is that all? Not even close. Havana is a great place to dance Salsa, Merengue, Hip Hop and the latest in Reggaeton. Come and enjoy some of the best Colombian food (at GREAT prices!) in the area as well as plenty of drinking while you visit with your diving buddy. So there you have it. The whole enchilada the latino way; alcohol, food, music, conversation, dancing, and...( last part edited out by TheSassyRabbit for those with sensitive eyes)

OCEANIC VENTURES dive shop in Houston has again offered to provide us with door prizes at this happy hour. Please consider patronizing their shop for all of your local dive shop needs (gear, tank rentals, course instruction, etc.). Contact them at (713) 523-DIVE or Oceanic Ventures websiteThanks Ann and Eric!

Will you be there???

No I'm not giving salsa lessons, but I'll be glad to help the ladies with the basic footwork and hip movements if they need a little help :lmao: Actually, I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it, but I'll sure try.

This one is going to be too cool!!; gosh, I hope I can make it.

Hey Katie,

If you need some instruction prior just call me and we'll get together and go over those moves. Or better still, we both could get together with Julio and I'm sure between the two of us you'll probably learn enough to get by.

I actually have a family reunion that mom really wants me to attend in Austin. It just so happens that I knew about this first....but I'm not sure I can get by with telling my mother, "Too bad....I've got plans to go salsa dancing". This is a touchy subject and will need to be handled very delicately. Truth is I'd rather attend this function than a family reunion....but don't tell Mom!!! :D

Thanks for the offer Lisa! I'll be in CR for the next week, so probably can't take you up on your offer this time - guess I'll just have to wing it. Rain check please :-)

Everyone, since I know Lisa will not say anything about it, I will.

Last weekend, Lisa and her dance partner took second place out of nine couples in a "Jack and Jill" dance competition. For those of you who are asking what that is, it is a form of competition in partner dancing, where the competing couples have been randomly matched. In other words, you may have danced with your partner before, then again, you may not. This is a competition meant to test how well you can "social dance".

In most other competitions, you will dance with a partner that you have been working with for quite some time. Chances are, you will be doing a routine you have been working on together. These type of competitions are meant to test your performance dance skills.

Join me in congratulating Lisa for her accomplishment. Now, I will run for cover since I know Lisa will probably want to kill me! :D
