Hey gang...we have some phenomenal women on our site that are not only dive professionals but also avid advocates for issues that pertain to women in diving. Whether the subject is benigh such as wearing make up underwater pros and cons or more serious such as diving while pregnant...there are unique considerations for the female 'half' of the diving equation.

Would you be interested in discussions that focus on 'women and diving'???

Definitely!

Especially as someone who has no diving experience (or training) whatsoever, it might help to eliminate mistakes during my very steep learning curve.

I would rather talk about the men. :teeth:

Other than the pregnancy while diving topic, I'm at a loss for what other topics there are that pertain only to women as divers. I'm also quite sure that I will be educated shortly. :diver:

welll, I think there are a lot. You have an activity (I would hesitate to call diving a sport--throw brickbats at me as you may---it's not a sport) that really places women at an even level. There's no reason Ann Kristovich couldn't have beaten Jim Bowden to the Open Circuit diving depth, except maybe that he needed her to administer field therapy for decompression sickness.. So I think in that you have the core of some discussions.

But I am busy now and need to get back to my movie, "Tortilla Soup"

One of my all time favorites, a classic.

Ciao,

Dennis

I think it would be a great forum. I would agree that for the most part that diving puts women and men on an equal playing field. But as women we do face many differences when diving. For example, we dive with hoods here in the great PNW. I usually cut my hair shorter when I am diving alot. It is so hard to tuck all the hair up into the hood, and a real challange to brush it out once the hood is removed. Might sound silly but it can be a real pain.

And Dennis I love the movie "Tortilla Soup". It is one of my favorites.

Along this line, I thought this might be of interest, especially to those who didn't catch this year's Beneath The Sea.

Ok Mike and Richard,
No need to duck and cover or hide under something hard and sturdy.
I am all for equality. :diver: and I am sure the other gals are too.
Do you guys have special issues you want to see discussed?

Should the forums be open to all or only accessable according to your gender?

Yes,

Some of us dive with mustaches. I usually trim mine back a bit when I am diving a lot. It is so hard to keep the mustache hair out of the way so the masks don't leak. Then it's a real challenge to not trim too much and then keep it close so that it doesn't leak. Then there's always razor burn and the mask rubs against your face and aggravates it so I could talk about that with the other men who have the same issues. Might sound silly but it can be a real pain.

(Why do I feel that I should use a Liberace accent when I write this? LOLOLOL)
