Memorial Day Trip Dive Incident

WW situation of not being able to inflate her BC is why my wing is hosed to the pony, probably not DIR either but it works for me.
Having grown up on J-valves before basic gear let alone redundent and having made free accents from 90' I don't have a big problem with two experinced divers sharing air within sight of the surface. Being OOA at 60' isn't the end of the world unless you owe the deco man time.
What I did have a problem with on this trip is newbie divers being taken past their limits, I know it's just a number but to someone fresh out of OW it's a biggie and sharing computers.
By all that is wet, I do hereby swear, (politely), and attest, upon pain of never diving again, (real or imagined), that I understand and affirm, that I agree to the above.

Be advised the quote above is not Kamala but someone being stupid. Kamala goes via Wreck Wench. To all...in retrospect I made a poor choice and I've learned a great deal from it.
Thank you, Kamala
I just got on this thread.. I was away in Montreal this past weekend..
I'm glad everyone is safe and sound. If this was me, I would have aborted, immediately. Anyone else, well, you made the choices, your adults and are well versed in diving experience. I still don't think it was a wise choice.
Please be safe out there!

Sounds like a "sock puppet" to me!
Alter ego is more like it...er...I mean Wreck Wench is my alter ego...I be "Kamala" at least as far as my passport and birth certificate are concerned.
Sock puppets do not apply to admins who regularily have a second identity to 'see' what members on the site see etc. And yes...I like Wreck Wench better too!

"When those who would be leaders in some context are not being paid for their time, are they still leaders and do they still owe a duty of care"....
NO.
Period.
Oh, and by the way, the 60' limit for OW certs is a suggestion, just as are all other dive-card "limits." Its a certification, not a license. Please do understand the difference, because its very important, and you do NOT want that to ever change.
The day it does my gear goes on eBAY and I take up fishing because a short time later you will be forced to do likewise.
We are all adults here. We all make a conscious decision to get into the water, to decend to whatever depth, to continue said dive at all times. We all know full well that we cannot breathe water, as we are not fish, and but for our mechanical gear (which is quite heavy and bulky, by the way, and damn hard to miss) we would be dead within minutes.
We all have the right to stick up our thumb if we are beyond our personal comfort limit for that day, which may be 20' tomorrow and 150' the day after. If that thumb is ignored we have the absolute right and duty to use our middle finger, and abort without the person who refuses to abide our indication of discomfort. Your duty to any buddy you may have ends when said buddy disrespects your continued life. Your duty to anyone else in or near the water, to whom you have no active professional relationship, is nil.
I strongly suggest that all who do not understand a concept called "The Power of Legitimacy" go pick up some reading material on negotiating tactics and learn what that term means, because it gets almost as many people in trouble - or killed - diving as does complacency.
Those two are #1 and #2 in line as the root causes of accidents. Get that particular phrase out of behavior pattern when it comes to diving, and you will live longer. Banish complacency as well and you are extremely unlikely to die underwater, absent a true Act of God.
Dive safely folks.
